Rent/Trade put up new rules about this and not happy. I though this was a forum to post whatever you waunted.. Apparently not.. You have to post 50 threads before you can post into rent/trade. it sounds like WD had some input on this with the bad economy..

Looking for a website any help would be appreciated.. I cant lose the amount of points i have. Very troubling!!

I'm quite sure TWDC had nothing to do with it. However, there are several other places you can consider advertising. Among them:

TUG (www.tug2.net)
Redweek (www.redweek.com)
My Resort Network (www.myresortnetwork.com)

These are all "general timesharing" sites. There are also some DVC specific sites.

Note that some of these places will charge you a small (~$25) fee for placing your ad. DO NOT advertise with anyone that wants an up-front fee in the hundreds of dollars, even if they promise they have a renter "ready for your unit."

Looks like you are at 50, so you're all set. I don't have a problem with this. I think some people have been scammed recently and this may be a way to weed out some of the scammers.

Really, if I joined the DIS today to rent my points, it would take me 10 minutes to get up to 50 posts. Go join the community board for a while. Plenty of posts you could add to over there.

Someone getting 50 posts in one day is NOT likely to have their rental post approved for the DIS rent/trade board. The moderators are looking for people who contribute to the DIS on a regular basis as a true participant, not someone who posts for 50 times just to be able to use the board to rent their points. I agree with this approach by the DIS. The rent /trade board is a lot of extra work for the moderators and it should be reserved for the people who participate here on a regular basis. There are lots of other places for people to go to rent their points if that is all they are here to do.

You may be correct in some ways, but this is a Board , But for the few the many have suffer. Not Good...

The DVC Rent/Trade board was always intended to be a place where our regular, active, DIS posters can post their extra points, or a reservation. However, over the years, it seemed to become a place where people would come to rent their points, with having no interest in the rest of the DIS, posting on the R/T forum only.

We here encourage potential renters to browse through an owners posting history, getting a feel for the posting style and personality of the individual before committing $ to a reservation. Without posting on the non-Rent/Trade boards, the owner really would have no history in our community to check, so this is also to the advanage of the owners trying to rent their out their points.

I'm actually surprised how many owners have been posting to the R/T Board for years, with absolutely no other posts on the DIS. If I were looking for an owner to rent from, that would certainly send up red flags.

And as we don't allow any other posters to freely advertise their businesses, why should the Rent/Trade board be a means of personal gain to people who have no desire join our community?

The DIS is an excellent resource to connect one owner to another. I've purchased transfer points from a few DVC owners over the years and this is the exact process I used to determine who I would be comfortable doing business with and it's been beneficial to both seller and buyer. I personally would not attempt these types of transactions without quite a bit of history to review.

It may be just a Board to some but to the rest of us it is an online Community. The Rent/Trade board is provided as a resource to the community. It seems reasonable to me to expect those who want to make money on the R/T board to give something back to the community by sharing their knowledge of Disney to help others. It also provides potential renters a way to get a sense of the DVC owner with whom they are considering doing business. Personally, I would not consider giving money to someone who didn't post on any other forum other than the Rent/Trade board.

As Inkmahm correctly points out, making 50 quick content-free posts will not suffice. We're looking for community participation. The number of posts is just one of the things we consider but not the only thing.

I too have had this issue. The requirement to have 50 posts and 6 months does have some merit though. Note: the counter by your name includes Rent/Trade board posts so you need 50 posts outside of Rent/Trade (your counter may need to be over 50). You may also get dinged for short responses; this seems arbitrary and may serve only to frustrate the “newbie”. After all most threads require little response and is often covered by the Vets, leaving little to contribute for the new guys who has much less experience. I know most of my time is reading posts. It is often said the requirements are to foster a sense of “community” and this is good, but how many on the current Rent/Trade board can say they have met half the number of posts in the last six months outside of the Rent/Trade board? You can look up the statistics of each poster and count for yourself. :surfweb:

The requirement is that the 50 posts be contributory to the DIS commuity and that basically means that you have been truly a part of the DIS community during the time you have been registered. Posts that just appear ( and this does require some subjectivity) to increase the post count without any true contribution are not being taken into consideration.

In all cases, those affected (including you) have been sent a note explaining the position being taken along with a suggested number of posts over a specific time frame in order to meet the intent of the policy.

Since potential renters have been encouraged to review prior posts of those posting threads, it might be encumbent on members to strive to meet the intent of the policy instead of just the minimal numbers.

YMMV! :)

These rules are in the best interests of protecting the community and the interests of renters. Frankly, if I noticed you had just joined the forum and had very few posts - I wouldn't even try to rent from you.

I'd rather pay an extra $ per point for a forum regular with reputation than take my chance on a discount purchase.

This isn't a reflection of you, but the unfortuante nature of portions of society as a whole.

If you're only looking to rent out points, there are other options available to you including one sponsor of these forums. Other options have already been posted.

People on the rent/trade forum are also likely to look through all your posts, as recommended, to glean some info on what kind of person you are.

Using a good many posts to complain or to knock the rules of the board (that are in place to protect us, by the way) is not likely to gain you any serious "lookers"

Just my 2 cents.

Feel free to find a board that will allow you to do whatever you please.
