Just talked to my DVC Guide, and asked him how many GV's each resort had on Disney property.

OKW-27 GV's
BWV- 7 GV's
VWL- 0
BCV- 0
---------------
VB- 6 Beach Cottages (GV's)
HH- 5 GV's

He said DVC hasn't made a decision if there will be any GV's at Disney Institute. At the members meeting at OKW, I asked if there were going to be any GV's at DI, and he told us no.

As I said in an earlier post, we tried to view a GV last week at OKW, ( to show in-laws) and every one (27) was being used the whole time we were there (6 days)

Thanks for the info... one of the main reasons we bought ourpoits at OKW was to have that 11 month window to book them.... looks like thatwas a good move.

I sure do hope they add a few to DI and EP... they are such a nice option!

Laurabearz,

Your welcome, That is the "exact reason" we have OKW as our home resort also. To have the GV option when we need it.The 11 month window is very important for GV's, especially if you want specific dates or peak times(holidays, etc)
If I had to guess, I doubt if they will put GV's at DI. That will make OKW more important as a "home resort" for booking GV's.

I thought that the press release for the villas at DI said that there would be Grand Villas? Maybe my memory is going. You know that happens to us Old Key Westers. ;)

EVA,

As of yesterday when I talked to my guide(2-24) he said there has been no decision made about building GV's at DI. The press release in the Orlando paper "did say" there would be GV's at DI.
So your memory is fine.:D

I'm curious WHY they have decided not to put GVs in their newest two resorts - and are considering not putting them their next one.

I've never had reason to book one - and likely will only do so once or twice - but they certainly seem popular if people can't even get in to SEE one of the 27 at OKW during a non-peak time.

Anybody have any theories into this? Did they build "too many" at OKW? Is it a space issue - i.e. it's so many more points that they could fit smaller units in the same amount of real estate and ultimately get more points for those combined? Just curious what the theories out there are.

they plan to. This quote is from the DVC members only webpage, under member news regarding the Disney Institute:

Initial plans call for the construction of four residential-style buildings with studio, one- and two-bedroom villas and Grand Villa units that sleep up to 12 guests.

Is it a space issue -

That's exactly the reason. A Grand Villa is always a Grand Villa -- even if no one has it booked. The way they built BCV and VWL the accomodations are interchangeable -- one day a studio and a one-bedroom another day it's a 2-bedroom. Making a 3 bedroom this way wouldn't have the draw of the spectacular GV's at the other resorts so I think they just eliminated them.

The Eagle Pine project is scheduled to have GV's -- and I bet they'll be beauties!
