My DH and are are going to try staying at the animal kingdom. We have booked a studio with a savannah view. We have stayed at Old key West, Saratoga Springs, Beach & Yacht Club and Boardwalk Villas.
Is this resort as good as all of these? Can you give me any info about the restaurants and pools etc, etc. It would be greatly appreciated...:goodvibes

We are staying at Kadani Village in September and did a great deal of goggling to try to find photos of the new resort. We located an individual who had an extensive blog and many pictures of this new DVC resort. I am currently on the road and dont have the link to his site on my laptop, but will attempt to locate it when I return tomorrow. I do recall there is an upscale restaurant supposedly on par with Jiko, and all the rooms have flat panel LCD Tv's....we toured a model last Oct...very nice. OKW is our home resort and still our favorite (not big fans of valet parking, bell hops and long walks to the room) and appears to still have the greatest square footage for a given room class, but Kidani looks awesome from what we have been able to research. Id go for it !

We just returned from a 9 day stay at WDW. We stayed at both SSR and Kidani Village (Animal Kingdom Resort) and Kidani Village was the best by far. We have stayed at a total of 5 Disney resorts and Kidani Village was our favorite. The theming is fantastic, the rooms are very large and comfortable fit families of every size, the resort activities are fabulous, and overall everything is great. We really enjoyed the Community Hall here and I would be happy to post a list of the activities that are offered daily at the resort. We did not try Sanaa the restaurant located in Kidani Village, but we looked at the menu and it looked delicious. The pool at Kidani is also fantastic! The slide and water play area were a hit by the whole family. The only complaint we have is that a counter service restaurant is not located in the building, but Mara, which is a counter service, is located about 5 minutes away at Jambo House. I would really conceder Kidani Village as it is a great resort!

OKW is our home resort too..and we love it for the same reasons you do, but unfortunately it is not available. In fact AKV are the only ones that are. We'll be in the Jambo house...so am hoping I'm not disappointed. We have a savannah view and am hoping to see lots of animals......:goodvibes

Aside from the DIS info. threads (here, here, here and here) and the DIS picture thread here, I found this site: http://www.aklresort.com/.

These sites aren't specific to AKV, but there is tons of general info, as well as certain AKV info.

I stayed at AKL many years ago and absolutely loved it. I am staying in a Jambo House studio next January for my solo and very excited!

A huge thumbs up :thumbsup2 for Jiko located in Jambo. My husband gave it the highest compliment "Doesn't taste like Disney food" :rotfl2: (this from the bottomless pit)

We also liked Boma for a BIG BREAKFAST!!!

We stayed at AKL Savannah a month ago. We saw several animals from our balcony. Every morning around 9am, the giraffes would feed. It was really interesting watching them stick their tongues out (even caught some pictures) and also watching them bend down to drink and then hop up.

Warning, after staying at AKV, Kilmanjaro Safari is kind of boring. When we rode this, we wanted to go back to our room for a much better experience. If you're at Jambo, we recommend going to the Savannah and talking to the African guides about the animals and their countries.

Also, we recommend Boma's (we went for 2 breakfast and 1 dinner). If you go for breakfast, do not go towards the end of their breakfast hours because they were out of a few items and the pastries were not as fresh.

Make sure to spend time enjoying the resort. It's really like two trips in one (theme parks and African safari).

Another fan of Boma here! The breakfast is the best in the whole World. :thumbsup2

Another fan of both Jiko and Boma here. We are looking forward to trying the new Sanaa restaurant as well and will be staying at AKV (Jambo, Savannah 2brv + studio) in August for the first time and have an ADR for the night of our arrival at Sanaa. Although this is our first trip staying at AKL we have been to the resort (and restaurants) on many occasions and it is abosolutely beautiful. We are truly looking forward to the "full experience" of staying there and can hardly wait.

We are booked at Kidani for the end of October. Love hearing the great reviews and experiences. I drove over last October to see the progress and walk through the main building. I was very impressed with the theme, Jambo House reminded me of Wilderness Lodge at least the building structure, obviously the decor is quite different.

Looking forward to reading more positive posts!!!

Yes, the Jambo lodge/lobby building is just magnificent. Truly my happy place! It's such a beautiful space, and when you add that certain smell from Boma :goodvibes:goodvibes

Here are some views from the 5th Floor bridge across the lobby:
