Inflation proof points?

I thought I read or heard somewhere that our points are inflation proof. So if I have 160 now, I still should be able to get the same room for those points years down the road. I don't know if we can afford to keep adding points - I'd love too, but not sure if I can afford it!!! Thanks.

Yes and no. Maintenance fees go up, hopefully no worse than the inflation rate. The points themselves are good for same rooms each year, so that part doesn't change.

Basically, that's a good assumption - BUT - be sure to realize that the points can be changed - and have been changed in the past.

The total number of points for any resort is a fixed number and cannot be changed - but the points required for any individual nght can be changed. However, if any nights are raised, others must be lowered to keep the total points in balance for the year.

In practice, this has happened only once, beginning in 1996 at OKW - where some nights were raised a few points, some were lowered a few points and some saw no change at all.

Since then, as subsequent resorts have been opened, DVC has been able to sustain the original point charts and even create internal variations for some resorts (HH weekend point variations, BWV standard/Preferred, AKV multiple categories).

While it is possible for DVC to make such changes without input from members, I don't expect any changes in the foreseeable future.

Stay Tuned! :)
