Infant on the Safari at AK?

I have countless trips, however this will be the first time with an infant to Animal Kingdom. Our son and daughter in law will be going on Expedition Everest, which I don't ride. I am hoping I can take my 7 week old granddaughter on the Safari. Yes I know it can be bumpy, and we have talked with the dr. who is very familiar with the ride and she says its ok. Are there any restrictions for infants to ride by Disney?

There is no restriction on handheld infants on the safari, however make sure your son and daughter in law are comfortable with you taking their newborn onto the ride.

We aren't taking my first daughter until she is almost 1 (she is 5 months now). I'm not sure if I would have taken her on the safari at 7 weeks. I definitely wouldn't have been comfortable with my parents taking her alone, no matter how much I love them and knowing how "experienced" they are. It could be a sensitive subject all around.

Seven weeks old? No way - the head and neck are not developed enough, IMO. Would they take her off roading at that age? I'd spend the time walking her in her stroller down the two animal trails.

The only way I'd take such a little one is properly secured in a front carrier...they are strapped to your body and there is more support to their head. This ride can be very bumpy with adults " lurching" on the seats. I'd be afraid of losing grip.

i was there last wednesday, in pouring rain, on Kilimanjaro safari with our 4 year old. she was OUT OF THE WORLD seeing lions, elephants, hippos, giraffes, zebras. She weighs 35 lbs soaking wet and did move around but the drivers keep it VERY mild. Again, there were ponds of water everywhere from the rain but we didn't get wet. Absolutely the best ride at AK for my 4 year old

I wouldn't take an infant on this ride. We waited until our twins were two to ride it. Very bumpy. Too much for little heads and necks.

Do you have a baby wrap to keep her in? I would not trust myself without one, just in case you need your hands to brace yourself. Most of the ride you might not need it, but once in a while is enough...

I think we took my son at about 6-months, and even then it was in a baby carrier to keep him close to me. It's a very bumpy ride for a baby not even 2-months old! The baby will get nothing out of the ride, it will all just be a bumpy blur. If you're taking her so no one has to miss the ride that's one thing, but I wouldn't take her thinking she's going to enjoy it.

But the OP is asking about a 7 week old baby, not a 4 year old child.

I'm going to be the odd man out I guess on this one. I loved this ride with infants. Every time they fell asleep and I got to relax a bit. I wouldn't think twice about it. Actually, my kids were 1, 1, 2, and 4 last trip and they all still fell asleep on it!
As for a baby carrier - that will be quite the blessing with an infant (obviously you will want to spend more time in the shade/air conditioning, but it is so much better than trying to navigate an unnecessary stroller everywhere. We would park the stroller and forget about it for the most part when we only had an infant).

They have an awesome carrier. It is more like a wrap that can be worn many different ways. I can't remember the name of it. They plan on taking her on the safari later that day. So yes, if I take her, I will have her close to my body in the baby wrap carrier, with her head and neck fully supported, and would ask to sit in the front row

Well, that is the absolute ONLY way I would take such a young being on the ride, so you've passed muster there. The person that said to have the carrier to support baby's head in case you have to brace yourself was absolutely right. If what they have is a Moby (or similar), definitely have that up high enough to protect her.

As far as a seven week old baby, I can pass on what my doctor told me when I asked about riding ANY thrill ride at Disney World with a broken neck (I have one and will always have one and wear no brace). His reply was "I'm am more concerned about you getting into a back end car accident than I am with you on a ride, any ride, at Disney World. You are more secured in a ride car than you are in your own car." Now, at the time, I was in my late 40s but on my next trip, I realized that I was safer in a ride vehicle. Your granddaughter will be protected in a sling you wear and she might bump a bit but she'll bump into you and she will be protected. Sure, in a car, she's in a car seat but she'll still bounce around in the car just like she would on the Safari.

As a woman in your 40's, you are able to support your head. A 7 week old newborn is not. I would never consider the possibility of taking a newborn on the Safari.

No there are no restrictions and we took out 5 month old daughter on it. Just hold her on your lap and keep her head steady on the bumpy parts
