Infant and WDW

I have the opportunity to take a trip to wdw in July with my parents. My husband cannot come b/c of work. I would be staying in my parents DVC with a 2 1/2 year old and 3 mo old. I would like to go because my sister is in the Disney College program and works the jungle cruise - her stint ends in august and my 2 1/2 y.o. daughter misses her aunt and wants to see her in disney.

Has anyone ever taken an infant of 3 mos -this young? How was it? Did a baby carrier work or did you find that the infant got to hot? Do food stores deliver to dvc? I need formula ect? Did you buy the baby a seat on the plane? I did for my daughter when she was one but we were also renting a car. This time i thought I'd use the magical express. Any advice on going with an infant this young would be appreciated.

I haven't taken a 3-mos old but I can certainly understand why you would want to go. That is so cool your sis could do a stint working at Disney. JMO but I think you should go. If it gets too hot, you can take breaks in the baby care center or just head back to the resort to cool off. You can get grocery delivery at DVC. I see a lot of recs for gardengrocer.com on the DVC boards. As far as travel, true, you cannot use your car seat on DME, however she will be safer in her seat on the plane. It is not a requirement for the airplane, but it is recommended. If you are flying very far you might appreciate having that extra seat to put her down and relax a little bit during the flight too. You can just have the seat stowed w/the luggage during the bus ride. Plus, you never know if you might have an unplanned car ride during your stay and be glad you had the car seat with you.

My DD wasn't that young, she was almost 9 months when we took her. We did buy a plane ticket, but we used a towncar service so we could have a free grocery stop to get diapers, wipes, bottled water, babyfood, etc... Just a word of advice...read the fine print on the fare rules. I had to argue with the salesperson at USAIR for 37 minutes before he gave me the discount on DD's seat. I kept reading him the fare rules word for word and he kept saying there was no discount on that rate class. He finally was like "oh yeah, I see, there is a discount." Also, the flight attendants were a little ignorant, too. On the flight down we put DD in the middle between us rear facing, no one said a word. On the way back we did the same and one flight attendant came and said that we had to put her in the window seat because in an emergency I (sitting in the window seat) wouldn't be able to get out over her carseat. Duh, that makes total sense! I'm glad he said something. But then, another flight attendant came and said "I don't think those car seats are made to go rear facing. I think you are only supposed to use them forward facing." (It was an infant/toddler convertible, but DD was still way too tiny. She 14 months now and still too light to turn around.) So just be prepared.

It's a great time to take the baby with some precautions. I wouldn't use a body to body carrier in July in Florida. Your baby can overheat easily. S/he will be much more comfortable in their stroller. Due to heat your baby may sleep more and not be as hungry. This is one case where I would wake a sleeping baby to eat - you need to make sure the baby stays well hydrated (you, too, especially if nursing).

When my dd was newborn last Summer we spent hours at the pool each day. I purchased a bug screen for her stroller and made sure she was out of the sun. I also wiped her down with cool water when it was really hot. I dressed her primarily in onesies as they are cotton and seem pretty comfortable.

We took DD#3 last Sept and it was easy. There are a/c baby care centers that are nice for little breaks in the parks. It was hot when we went in Sept 90°+ everyday. We did use a Baby Bjorn, it's a newer one called Baby Bjorn Air, it's cooler than the original. She did great in that and never even broke a sweat. We also used her stroller quite a bit, I bought a sunshade extender at Babies R'Us. She rode everything without a height restriction.

We had www.wegoshop.com deliver groceries for us. They worked out great.

We did not buy her a seat on the plane, I was bresfeeding and just nursed her during take off and landing, she slept some, she did fine. We also just held her on Magical Express.

I would suggest hitting the parks as early as possible then going back midday for both to nap or swim.

I think it's a very easy age, they sleep alot and don't throw tantrums yet . Have a great trip!!!

OK well it wasn't Disney World it was Key West but it was just as busy as Disney and I have a few tips and more important a few words of encouragement. IT WAS AWESOME.....baby was even better on the go than she is in the house. I def. over packed by way of clothes but that is ok better to be safe than sorry......the weather last week was 90ish and very humid a few days. I DID not use the carrier ONLY from the airport to the hotel b/c we were in a taxi....but she was fine on a shuttle bus too just being held. She did great in the stroller...bring the big one so baby can lay down.....mine slept alot. I was alittle worried about the heat.....I brought a towel from the hotel and just kept wetting it and running it down her legs and arms to keep cool. She wore a white sun hat b/c she is too young for sunscreen (6 months according to my dr) and we just kept her legs covered with a LIGHT LIGHT BLANKET. BUT honestly it was a great experience.....OH one thing I forgot.....BRING DISH SOAP to wash bottles at night....only thing I didn't think of. OH and on the plane she did great too....I did not buy her a seat just held her....OH and fed her going up and going down to help with the pressure in her ears...GO FOR IT. Honestly I am a constant stress case and worrier and it was a great time...and trust me we ran like it was Disney. OH last thing get the SKIP HOP EXPO bag it is the best travel diaper bag....alittle small but it is good it forces you to minimize .... all I needed while out and about was bottles already filled with water, premeasured cups with powder formula, 1 burp cloth, diapers and wipes and we were GOOD TO GO. Hope this helps.

We just got home yesterday with our almost 4 year old DS and our 4 month old DD. And let me tell you the baby was MUCH EASIER than DS!!!! I say go for it! I did not really use the carrier too much because it did seem like she got too hot. I didn't use grocery delivery so I can't help you on that one, I use powder formula, so I had one can in my carryon and one can packed. And just bought bottled water at the resort (not the cheapest way, but most convenient). I did not buy DD a seat on the plane. It happened to work out that it was feeding time at take-off, then she slept until landing, so we had no problems. She was actually a lot better in WDW than she is at home!!! She loved being in her stroller, and she slept great! Have a great time!!!
