Hi Everyone,
I know I’m starting this journey a little maybe a lot early but I wanted to get a jump on trying to learn how to do this just in case I need to just book through Disney if I can’t figure it out. So I have never tried renting DVC points before. I have started to read/watch instructional things but just can’t seem to grasp the concept. How does this all work? We are looking to go to Disney world in October 2024 for 10 days. Does the reservation only cover your stay at the resort? How do you add park tickets/memory maker? How does the price per points work? I just really don’t have a clue and would love some guidance. Thank you!

Tickets and memory maker are sold separately. They can be purchased through Disney or for cheaper through a reputable company like undercover tourist. The price per point varies, usually $20-22 through companies like David’s but usually will be cheaper (like $18-$20) if you go through the disboards here, but there is a greater risk (although rare if you use disboards). You can book 11 months out if the person you’re renting points from owns their points at the resort you want to stay at, otherwise it’s 7 months out from your trip. Some bookings are hard to impossible to get (AKL value, AKL club level, BWV standard studios,BCV). You can also book the DVC villas through Disney for cash, would be more flexible and easier but it would be much more expensive.

Thank you! Well one of my preferred places was BWV studio so thank you for letting me know about that. If I were to book through Disney for cash we would be looking at staying at one of the value resorts due to cost so I was trying to give us a bit of an upgrade by going though DVC rentals.

DVC rentals - the cliff notes - DVC is a points based timeshare, people own points assigned to a specific resort & can use those points to book at that resort during home resort priority booking which is 11-7 months before the planned stay. At 7 months all owners can book at any DVC resort (except Riviera which has restrictions.)
When you rent from an owner - whether through a broker or from an individual - you pay them to make a reservation in your name using their DVC points. Once the reservation is made you enter the reservation number in your MDE which then links it to your tickets which you’d buy & link in MDE from Disney or a third party. W/ everything linked in MDE you’ll be able to enjoy the on-site perk of early entry & the deluxe resort perk of late night extra magic hours at Epcot & the MK. W/ the return of the dinning plan the owner would need to add that for you if you wanted it.
There are risks, your reservation is only as good as the individual owner you rent from. The owner can cancel the reservation at any time, DVC can cancel the reservation if the owner doesn’t pay their MF (dues) or their loan if they financed their purchase. There are scams where crooks pretend to have points but don’t. The brokers have policies to somewhat protect you the renter - which they set forth in their contracts & they presumably verify that their owners do in fact own. If you rent directly from an individual owner take steps to vet that person.
Any near Epcot DVC resort, such as BWVs, will be very popular during the fall due to the festival, so you want to find an owner who‘s home resort is where you want to stay at or soon after 11 months.10 days is a longer DVC stay, so you’ll need an owner w/ enough points for that as well.
Note also that renting DVC is a private transaction & Disney will not get involved if there are problems between you & the owner. Also, points expire, so if you need to change or cancel the owner may be unwilling or unable to help you, something to think about if you plan to travel during Hurricane season.
You might consider the Swan/Dolphin which has most of the benefits of an Epcot resort stay but can be less expensive than the cash prices for its’ next door neighbors the BWV & BC/YC.
I own, but don’t rent out my points - we use them all for our own vacations 😂.

Hi,
DVC points own / renter here....
If you want to get you post total out you are welcome to DM me and I'll help explain the process to you.
You will need to DM to rent points here, ask it is a requirement of the board, placed on the renters.

Renting points usually comes out to about the price of a moderate. It is possible to get BWV, just difficult. Easier if you’re getting boardwalk view, but that’s more expensive. As the previous poster said, maybe look into swan/dolphin. They have deluxe benefits (and qualify for deluxe extended evening hours) at moderate prices. If all of that is too expensive, you can rent a condo offsite (but very close) for the price of a value. Windsor Hills is nice, and is super close to the parks.

Thank you so much this was amazing!

I would just add make sure you check prices vs direct from Disney.

Many rooms are much cheaper to rent. This is the most common thing and why people rent.

But some room-date combinations are only slightly cheaper and probably not worth the “you’re never getting your money back no matter what” cancellation policy of most renters/rental agencies.

Occasionally renting (at least from an agency) is more expensive than just booking the room via Disney, especially with the sales they’ve had recently. Really, it happens! ALWAYS check the Disney rate.
