My DH's Aunt has invited our family over for the evening of Christmas day for hot chocolate and treats so we can all visit with some family coming from out of town. I also found out today that she has bought gifts for my kids although we usually don't exchange. I would like to take over a nice, but inexpensive hostess gift (because I wasn't expecting this I didn't budget for it at all).

I don't want to take food because she is also having my DD over on Wed. this week with a few other relatives (another girl my DD's age) to bake cookies/treats. Any suggestions? They don't really collect anything, she and her husband are retired and travel extensively, especially cruises (not Disney though) so most of their decor is souveniers from their trips.

My aunt just had my family over for a holiday dinner. We brought her a Christmas Cactus plant. You could consider a plant or poinsettia.

You can wrap up a kitchen themed set, dishtowels, potholders etc. They can be Christmas themed, or just to match her kitchen.

I vote for kitchen toy. Is she older, does she have an electric can opener? Does she have a coffee grinder? Both are super practical and not expensive.

Bottle of wine with monogram wine stopper, candle, breakfast basket (cracker barrel has some nice ones and they gift wrap), gourmet coffees, leather journal to document their travels, nice photo album

Thank-you for the ideas, now I've got a good starting point, I'm leaning toward a picture frame.

I thought about a poinsettia, but they have a dog and I thought those were dangerous for pets (or is that just cats? I can't remember).
