want to make chicken piccata, need a wine to make sauce.
I do not want to use my good/expensive wine
not too cheap that it makes the sauce gross

TIAprincess:

Use whatever is cheap in the liquor aisle. Just make sure that it isn't called "cooking wine." That will ruin your sauce.

Any mag (1.5 liter) pinot grigio well work very well. Stay away from sweet wines like rieslings and moscatos. I would also not use a chardonnay either-unless it isn't too oaky. But for what you will spend on Holland house 8 oz bottle in the supermarket-you can get a full mag. You can also just get a regular 750ml bottle for 5-10 bucks.

Have fun!

2 or 3(where we are) buck chuck from trader joes. I cook with it, heck I even drink it sometimes.

I drink it ALL the time and it would be perfect to cook with!

Our closest Trader Joes is an hour away so we buy a case at a time anytime we're in that area!

You really don't need that much wine to make chicken piccata..... maybe 1/2 cup if that. Just wait til your ready to open the bottle of wine you have to make it.

Run! Don't walk,to the wine isle and buy yourself a boxed wine! ;) I love the stuff :cool1:

The boxed wine at Target is pretty good. It's not a bad price when it goes on sale. Pay attention to the size of the box, they have more than just one bottle of wine in the box. They have 3 sizes? If I remember right?

For a cheap bottled wine, we like the Barefoot label. In our area, our grocery store normally has it for under $6 a bottle and it'll go on sale for under $5.

I get this at our local liquor store for about $3

Vendage - California Pinot Grigio -- 500 ml --- 3 servings

It is in a box (pouch really) and is great for Chicken Picatta as well as FONDUE!!!!

I usually drink what we do not use in the dish for the evening! :confused3

It has gotten some good reviews --- cannot beat the price!!!!

As they say on Food TV - only cook with what you will drink

Ditto to that!

But there are really tasty cheap wines I use for cooking...and will have a glass of while I cook. :thumbsup2

Chicken Piccata is actually the recipe I most often use a dry white wine in, so I know these go well in it:

Augey White Bordeaux - this is my absolute favorite. I found it at Publix. http://blogs.browardpalmbeach.com/cleanplatecharlie/2010/04/augey_white_bordeaux_french.php )

I've also used and liked:
Yellow Tail Chardonnay
Barefoot Chardonnay

If I recall correctly, all 3 of those ran about $6-8 a bottle.

Our Wegmans has tiny bottles of wine that are probably just the size you need for cooking. And they are good brands, too for around $2 each. See if you can find those. For cooking, though I use cooking wine since I have a 5 year old. I keep that on hand and have white, rose, and red.
