So I'm just a little curious and hearing rumors about the Temple of the Forbidden Eye will be down for refurb this fall? If so I'm canceling my trip, its our family favorite. Does anyone recall the last time Indy had a refurb?*
Thanks!*

I hadn't heard anything about that on the boards but am interested to hear what others may think...

I heard some rumors earlier this week here that both Indy and BTMRR were going to be down. But then someone mentioned that it was highly unlikely that 2 major rides would be down at the same time. I have to agree with this...seems unlikely but its not unheard of...

OP- I wouldn't cancel your trip based upon rumors. On our last trip, Splash was down and that's one of my family's favorites. But there are still plenty of other great rides and it was on this trip that DS discovered his love for Space Mtn.;) I would definately be sad if Indy went down for our upcoming trip and even more sad if BOTH Indy & BTMRR were down. BTMRR is our family's absolute fav!!:sad2: But personally, we wouldn't cancel our trip. Although we may try and adjust the dates once I knew for sure from Disney what their plans were.;)

Good Point :thumbsup2

These rumors stem from an Al Lutz article a few months ago that predicted Alice, BTMRR, and IJ would go down some time in the fall. He has done very well on his CL info, but hopefully he is wrong on a couple of these refurbs.

They could all go down "this fall" for refurbishment but that doesn't mean they will all be down at the same time.

Indy NEEDS a major refuribishment and will likely will be down an extended period.

I haven't heard anything about Alice and what I have heard about Big Thunder had more to do with the queue than the ride (making it more accessible).

oh no i hope its not till nov or end oct i hope we can catch it in begging of oct lol indy is my sons new fav ride, and he want to go on thundermountion this time

I don't see them scheduling a refurb for any of the major rides during the Halloween time period. I could see November but not Halloween or Christmas time since those are some of the busiest in the year for holidays

Sadly for me, last Halloween POTC was down for extended refurb. I don't think it's unheard of for a major ride to be down in the fall:confused:

There have been rumors about an extended (multi-month) IJA refurb for the last several years. Splash got one. POTC got a couple. Screamin got one. Eventually IJA will get one. Maybe this fall.

For the record, I get that this is all speculation. But when these multi month refurbs happen, does Disney just fix broken issues or do they change the ride?

There is only 2 weeks between Halloween and Christmas time in the parks. I heard it could be a 2 month refurb for Indy so I'd expect September/October. They NEED everything up and running by Thanksgiving. Big Thunder may be a shorter refurb they can fit in between Halloween and Christmas. But the work needed on Indy, would require much more time.

Indy is past due for a refurb I think! That ride breaks down all the time these days. Last few times I have ridden it, all the effects weren't even working. :sad2:

Based on the extended POTC refurb that had that ride down during a popular time, it seems as though Disney may not be against refurbs during at least the first half of the Halloween season.

But I don't think I would schedule a trip around one ride. You could reschedule it and for whatever reason, that same ride could be off-line when you are there. Best to just make a decision and go with it. :thumbsup2

It's possible BTMRR will need a rehab like the one in WDW's MK. They replaced all of the track. It was a major work but there is no indication DL's version needs the same thing. I have heard some other rumors that never came true for the MK version that are now rumors for the DL version.

IJA was closed for a bit this year, last year and the year before. The rumor was always it would be closed a long time and get many things fixed, updated and it would be returned to it's original glory. Then the schedule came out and it was just a quick or short rehab. The rumors go on and on, we should believe it when see it with our own eyes.

Change in a major way is not common. Large maintenance like painting, fixing broken themeing elements, and ride system work that takes more than a simple night can be big projects.

I think it is sometimes a bit of both. I did not notice any changes made to Splash Mountain during my visit this month. I haven't been to the park since before DCA opened. Splash seemed exactly the same to me, although the owl that is supposed to let you know know the ID of your PhotoPass at the end of the ride wasn't working. I didn't know there was a refurb done to the ride until i read it on the DIS.

POTC had vast improvements made to the ride, in my opinion. The newer animatronics were much better than the original ones. They had more fluid movement and better facial expressions.

Star Tours was a huge improvement. No doubt about it. Space Mountain on the other hand.... I preferred the old version with the moons and galaxies flying around you. I also missed the glowing red orb very much.

A refurbishment is just that: a chance to improve/repair something.

I'm curious what's wrong with Indy that needs to be fixed? Maybe we were fortunate when we went in early May it seemed to be working fine. Rode it several times. I didn't notice any features not working from what I can remember of past trips???

A few months ago the lasers and fire on the bridge weren't working. The projector for the rats that "fall" into your vehicle was working off and on. Ever since last summer it has been hit and miss for me on the final scene where the ball is supposed to "roll". Sometimes it actually "rolls" and other times it just shakes a lot.

Aside from the show problems, the ride has been going off line a lot. I have been evacuated off Indy two times since last summer! And many times the ride has been down when we wanted to ride. It needs some TLC!

Thanks for the insight

As far as I know, there is not another major refurb planned for Indy. Remember Indy received a MAJOR refurb only a few years ago, so it won't be due for one for probably 4-5 years, at least. They will of course do their yearly refurb of up to about 2 weeks.

That being said, I have heard from multiple people that BTRR will go down this fall for an 18-24 month rehab.

Basically, they want to redo all of the track and rework the queue and loading area to make wheelchair loading and unloading safer, as well as either remove the stairs or install an elevator to make the regular and FP queues fully accessible. Right now the procedure is apparently a liability nightmare waiting to happen, imagine if a wheelchair started rolling while a train was coming into the station. The results would definitely not be good.

There are also rumors that WOC will go down this fall for a redo of it's viewing area. Rumor has it that there will be some sort of stadium type seating, which shouldn't be too hard to accomplish.
