Hope the storms aren't as bad as they were on Thursday! I'm two hours away and parts of my town didn't have power until yesterday.
Winner: Sam Hornish
Off topic. Grew up on Indycar racing and sad to see the state this sport is in. It's all NASCAR now. Used to see sprint cars at a track nearby, and some of those drivers would be good enough to race at Indy. The newspaper had a full page devoted to the lineup, the car they drove, their sponsor etc... Now it's just a quarter page. Sarah Fisher grew up an hour from here and hardly any coverage.
I remember ABC showing a lot of the race from their "in-car" cameras. Wow what shots! To see the cars darting back and forth like that and at 215 mph to boot. Best year was with Eddie Cheever (full of himself), Sam Hornish (youg gun), Castroneves (great personality), Sarah Fisher, Tomas Schetcher(sp) etc.... A lot of the CART people have rejoined the IRL, and the sport has kind of become "Hoity Toity" I don't know a lot of the drivers anymore. NASCAR's drivers are much more accessible to the fans.
My mom is proud to be from Indiana, she sheds a tear when Jim Nabors sings "Back Home in Indiana". Lots of tradition Purdue Band, even Florence Henderson
but the Indy 500 isn't as great as it was 15 years ago. I don't even know if the Indy 500 is bigger than the Brickyard 400.
Oh well, a great day for racing fans. Lots of time today watching it on tv.
