First of all a big than you to all the encouraging words, it really helped me to get motivated again. After much research I have decided to follow the atkins plan and need some advice on induction. If all possible could some one list what foods they ate, more like a daily menu that they followed so I have an idea of what foods to purchase and what to get rid of. Also does anyone still drink regular coffee, and has it effected your weight loss. Sorry for all the questions but this is a whole new program to me and I am completly green!Once again thank you to all whose help I greatly appreciate.

Hello fellow Atkins-er!! I love the program--and I am totally committed to it!! Do you have the book? Be sure to read the book, it explains everything and also tells you what you can eat, and what you shouldn't and WHY....that is what I liked, the WHY part. NOW I understand why I never lost weight!! Also, check out the www.atkins.com website. Lots of help there with recipes for each phase of the program! The book will also explain the problem with caffeine and nutrasweet!

Good luck and check in often for help!! :wave2:

Would you like for me to email you the Atkins rules for induction? Just send me a pm with your email address and I will be happy to do it.

Basically, as you'll see from nativetxn's rules, during Induction you want to stick to under 20 carbs per day. BUT - try & get as close to 20 carbs as you can!

You're allowed to eat any kind of meat, eggs, a little cheese, and 1 salad a day. The salad should be 3 cups of salad veggies (lettuce, cucumbers, celery, radishes, cauliflower, broccoli, etc.).

OR

You can have 2 cups of salad veggies at lunchtime, then have 1 cup of veggies with dinner.

Remember to eat REAL salad dressing (no low-fat or non-fat), and stay away from the red/orange dressings (french, thousand island) because they have the most sugar.

Induction is the hardest part, because you will be really sick of eggs, meat & cheese by the end of the two weeks! But - you will see results!!! Most people lose between 8-15 pounds during those first two weeks, and that will give you incentive to keep going! After the first two weeks, you can start adding in more carbs slowly, in the form of more veggies, berries, nuts, etc.

Good luck!! You can do this!! ::yes:: ::yes::

Thank you for all the great advice I have printed off the rules of induction and will pick up the book this evening, and then a trip to the grocery store where I will stock up on the foods I can have. I informed my hubby that I was going to try to do the atkins diet and of course he rolled his eyes, but what does he know! He's a man that never gains weight, and mountain dew and any kind of candy is his usual breakfast! But I am excited to be starting this journey, which begins tomorrow, and hopefully with all the great support of my fellow "wishers" I will suceed, thank you all!

I won't be on all weekend, but I'll be looking for your report on Monday on how the weekend went!

And - don't be discouraged if you feel yucky for a few days. You will go through carb withdrawl and will probably get a headache and feel tired for 3-4 days. But after that the energy will kick in and you'll feel great!!

Good luck!!

You will love Atkins. It will be hard having to cook two different ways(one way for you and one way for your family) but it will be worth it. I was on Atkins for a month before my dh joined me so it is much easier this way.

Remember try to get started on the plan when you have days off from work because it is almost certain that you will feel pretty bad the first few days. Carb and caffeine withdrawal can be like torture BUT...... once you make it through that the rest will feel like a breeze!!! You will be full and you will not really crave the stuff with carbs as long as you don't eat it.

Come here with any questions you might have because there is always someone that has the answer or will find the answer for you as well as someone that has experienced the same thing and can help you along.

As far as what we eat....I usually have two or three strips of bacon and two eggs over easy each morning. I am not sick of that yet and I have been on this since 6/6/03!!!!
For lunch I usually have whatever meat that was left over from the night before. I keep a big jar of mayo and mustard that is mixed up together in the fridge for the sauce for the meat. I do not eat salad but you might want a salad for lunch also.
For dinner we have some kind of meat along with a salad for my dh and we have green beans or wax beans or broccoli or cauliflower. Sometimes we do not have a veggie at dinner time. For a snack we will have sugar free jello or pork rinds. I like to put cream cheese on mine so they taste better.

Look at the recipe section. There are several wonderful recipes that you should try. Especially "Beachgirls Cheesecake" It is WONDERFUL!!
