I have been to Disney World many times but this will be our first trip to Disneyland.

I am a little worried about the rides. I am a bit of a chicken. I don't want my tummy shaken up too much and so I am trying to figure out what rides I can ride and which ones are too much. At Disney World I can handle Dinosaur and Big Thunder Mountain but not Space or Splash Mountain.

I watched a youtube video of the Indianana Jones ride and was wondering if anyone can tell me how it compares to the Dinosaur ride. They look similar...like a rough car ride. I can do that. Is there any roller coaster element to this ride????

Indy is rough and jerky, but not fast. There aren't any roller coaster parts. And no dinosaurs to jump out at you. :thumbsup2

Fun stuff! Disneyland is my home park, but I had, essentially, a 6-month vacation at WDW, so I'm familiar with both rides.

Yes, they are very similar. And neither one is like a roller-coaster. They're both just a very unique type of ride. Despite their similarities as far as how the ride moves, they're pretty different as far as where you go and what you see. Indiana Jones is my favorite of the two. When everything's working, it's awesome! :cool1: As long as fire doesn't freak you out, I would be excited to try it and not too worried about feeling dizzy, claustrophobic, or like your stomach was left behind at the top of the drop. I'm motion sensitive, too, so I can relate to your concerns.

:wizard:

Thank you!! It looks like fun and I really want to ride it.

Fire sounds exciting. I'm only bothered by physical motions I have no problem with visuals experiences. I just have a delicate stomach!

I think it's so interesting the way each of us experiences these rides differently. I'd never consider Space and Splash to be that bad on my stomach (well, maybe Space), but then again, I don't think most of the attractions at any Disney theme park are too harsh on the stomach (at least compared to Universal).

But, as the PP said, Indiana Jones and Dinosaur are pretty much the same ride, just with different props. Frankly, at my last trip to WDW, I found Dinosaur a bit rougher. But, clearly, different strokes for different folks.

This is described as a fast paced spinning ride....

Can someone tell me if the rider controls the spinning or does it just spin wildly by itself???

RR I think spins follows a track and turns a little bit to follow the scenes (if that makes sense) but the spinning is pretty much up to the riders. You can spin a bunch or hardly at all.

Thanks for all the info.

I have been reading the ride warnings but I know all the "motion sickness" warnings are not going to apply to me. Although I get some motion sickness I usually manage most Disney rides with no problem. I just don't like the stomach drop feeling...like Tower of Terror and large roller coasters. If I followed all the ride warnings for nausea I wouldn't be riding many rides that I know that I can handle.

They may be the exact same but the end of Indy I get a little squeeze in my tummy I don't get on Dinosaur. I still think it is 100% worth riding!! (and this is coming from someone that doesn't like the drop in Pirates!! I'm assuming someone told you the drop is MUCH longer on the DL Pirates?)

Also- if it is only the dropping you have trouble with you should try Space at DL. It is so fun! Can't wait to ride it again!! :goodvibes

I get motion sickness pretty easy. In fact, I almost lost it on Flik's Flyers in California Adventure, and that's about as lame as it gets. However, I've never had a problem on Indiana Jones and think it's one of the best rides. It's really fun.

It is pretty similar to Dinosaur, but that ride made my poor tummy feel all queasy. Maybe it was the flashing lights or terrifying dinosaurs. Between the two, just for that reason, my vote goes to Indy. Give it a try!

DROP ON PIRATES?!?!?!

I love the Florida version of that ride....The description reads 12ft drop. That sounds scary.

Are there 2 drops?? Both that big?? How big is the Florida drop...because that one is small.

Pirates drop is big enough that I'd be worried for you if space and splash is a problem. I mean it's not CRAZY big but..be wary.

FTR, I do not get motion sick unless it's constant circles (I can handle teacups ? ) But RR cartoon spin is one ride I refuse..RE.FUSE. to go on again. I gave it two chances. It's out LOL

One is bigger than the other but they're both still small. If your ok at WDW I wouldn't worry to much about DLR. What do you think, guys? Is it about the same as the drop on Grizzly River Run? GRR is a ride at DCA. If you go to the lookout, you can watch the rafts come down the drop and get an idea of the drop length. It's really not that steep and it's over before you know it. The biggest problem with the Pirates drop is that it's dark so you can't see how for you are (or aren't) dropping.

Wow! Sounds like you had bad experiences. I wonder if you were with people that made it spin. I'm very motion sensitive, too, and found that if you don't spin it yourself it's a very mild ride. Do you remember if your party left the controls alone?

Oh gosh, I think the drop on GRR is much "worse" (I don't think it's bad) than the one on Pirates. Consider this - Pirates has NO height limit. Infants can ride it and there are no seat belts or lap bars. In other words, it's a drop down in the dark, but it's not bad at all in my opinion and it's obviously not considered big enough to warrant needing height restrictions or seat belts.

The first time it was my DH and I on our honeymoon. I was 20 and never got motion sick so we spun it. Yeah. bleh. It wasn't JUST the spinning tho..jerking bothers my neck? So I think that was worse on me.

The second time I was COMPLETELY in control of it and we didn't spin much if at all, but somehow I still came off nauseous? Perhaps mine is visual on that ride..but I still got jerked around a lot. I just hate it for some reason.

That's too bad. Well, if you have to cross one ride off your list, at least RR is a better choice than some others. :)

Indy and Dinosaur have the same ride track but with different vehicles and different theming. My personal preferance is Indy a thousand times over. To me Dinosaur is extremely loud and truth be told, I just love all things Indiana Jones :sad2: - I say as I watch the Crystal Skullpopcorn::.

Roger Rabbit spins but it is user controlled in the same way that you control the spin on Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. We go during the off season and have never had to share a car with anyone so we don't have to worry about spinning unless we want to spin.

Pirate's drop is definitely a longer drop, but its not super scary. I didn't think it was as long a drop as Grizzly River Run, more like one of the small drops on Splash Mountain.

I hope you have a wonderful time!

The drop on pirates is as long as the drop on splash but it isn't as sharp. I freaked out because I never thought they could be different between DL and WDW. I couldn't enjoy the rest of the ride because I was waiting for there to be another drop.

That said- their version is much better and you MUST ride it. I just didn't want you to get caught off guard like I did.
