My sister wants me to ask about the Indiana Jones ride. I know it uses the same kind of vehicle as Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom which she likes and doesn't have a problem with, but she is unsure about riding Indiana Jones. How does it compare with Dinosaur? Is it scary? Does it go fast? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Ride wise it is pretty much the same as Dinosaur. What makes it different (and better in some peoples minds) is that the storyline and que are fantastic. You get to go on a adventure and be saved by Indian Jones. It also has the best effect ever on a ride that still gets me (the ball o' doom). If your sister liked Dinosaur she should have a great time with Indy.

I like the ride, but the car's beat me to death.. better since they installed the back wings for support, but still not something I could ride more than once a day.

Spoiler . . .

We just got back from our first trip to DL, and rode Indiana Jones while there. Honestly, I was dissappointed. It is the same track as Dinosaur at AK with a different theme. The "ball-of-doom" was very cool, but the rest was a bumpy, jerky ride through silly effects (very fake snake and rat screen so blurry, I only knew what the effect was because of the movie. ) The ball is the best effect of both rides, but Dinosaur has it beat in every other area. Well, we liked the walk through to the ride - it's veeeerrrryy long, but fun to explore the tunnels and cave-like decor. IMO: Don't wait long in line for it . . .

Very much like Dinosaur. I like them both equally.

But tell her to NOT pull the stick in the inside que line (how do i spell que??) anyways....I repeat....DO NOT pull the stick that has a sign next to it that says "do not pull".

Also, when the rats drop into the vehicle, it's best to lift their feet up a few inches....maybe 12 - 18 inches if they're wearing sandals.

Dinosaur-dark, dark and dark. There are many places where you're not seeing anything. Also extremely loud! Overly loud.

Indy-Much more to see. Much more attention to detail. Better storyline, better que line/preshow. Better effects. Not as loud.

When my husband and daughter rode Indy in 2005, they were disappointed because they said it was so light inside that you could see the tracks which made it seem more like a ride than the adventure it is supposed to be. For those who have ridden, was that something that should not have happened? Is is supposed to be dark?

You can definitely see the track in some places; however, there's so much other stuff to look at that, most people aren't concerned. Plus, many other DL rides you can see the track and that doesn't make them any worse.

Yeah you can see the track in some places, but like other said, SO MUCH DETAIL that you just dont notice and care. EX: like when you are going over the rickety bridge, your more concerned about looking over the side to what is below you then to where the track is leading infront of you.

Thanks for the answers. They said it was light all the way through the entire ride. I think they are too used to Dinosaur since it is dark most of the way through. I want to try it anyway on our trip in January. It looks like great fun to me!

I can't stand Dinosaur because it is too dark for me and that makes it unenjoyable. I think Indiana Jones is a lot of fun and definitely thrilling.

I think Indy is fantastic. I thought Dinosaur was completely LAME!!! I rode it once and never even thought about going again.

I would have to agree with you. I go to the Dland quite often and make it a point to ride Indy every time. Tried Dinosaur last year for the first time and found it lacking. I think she would enjoy it. One should try a ride that is offered at Disneyland but not at WDW at least once. And vice versa.

Hmmm....light meaning 'completely lit up'? There are some areas lit up by the fire and other effects, but not light like sunlit. It is definitely a 'one in a million' ride IMHO. We absolutely have to ride it every time we go. :thumbsup2 I will say I've never been to WDW to experience that ride, but Indiana is truly great ;) You'll probably love it :woohoo:

Mostly all the replies that I have heard about Dinosaur compared to Indy is that people prefer Indy. I have no doubt you are going to enjoy it. It really does make you feel like you are on an adventure in a different world. :thumbsup2

Thank you! I have shared all your responses with my sister and I think she will actually ride it. I on the other hand will not. I strongly dislike the Indiana Jones movies and can't stand snakes, so I will not be riding. ;)

Well if you decide to try the ride, the snakes really arnt that bad, its just one, and if you are that terrifed but still wanna try the ride, I recommend not sitting directly on the right side of the jeep :thumbsup2

My grandmother is terrified of snakes and mice (she walked/ran right out of Honey I shrunk the Audience) and had no issue with Indy. The biggest part is the snake is so clearly not designed to be realistic and its over fast it wasn't a big deal for her. But don't sit at the front ride side of the car just incase as mentioned. I am just happy on this trip they didn't have the mouse effect working well (I hope that gets cut of fixed like the old days with the re-furb personally) or my grandmother would have jumped out of the car.

I think that you might actually still like this fantastic adventure ride even with your fear.

If you are afraid of snakes, I highly recommend that you do not sit in:
-middle row, far right
-back row, far right

Those I call the "snake seats" ;)

Great responses by all. I just took the family last week to DL so I thought I would give my 2 cents worth as well!

First of all, I have been to WDW about a dozen times with the family and I can't count how many times I've been to DL in my life. That being said I am a Disney lover --- There are some things better at DL and others that are much better at WDW.

As far as the 2 rides in question, yes, they are the same make and type. The difference is definitely the theming. In my opinion, Indiana Jones is WAAAAAY better than Dinosaur. Don't get me wrong, my kids love Dinosaur too, but they can't get enough Indiana when we're at DL.

As far as your fear of snakes, I can't speak to that. Yes, Indiana Jones does have snakes in the ride, but they are very "audio-animotronic looking" if you know what I mean.

I hope you have fun on your trip to DL!
