Indiana Jones and Star Tours questions

Is the Inidana Jones ride really a "thrill" ride? My 5 yo son LOVE I.J. movies, he doesn't like roller coasters, is this a fast moving ride? I am not worried about him being scared of the scenery, he will be OK with bumps, but not if it's too fast.

Also my 2 1/2 yo son, is 40inches so he will be able to do most stuff if we wanted him to. Will Star Tours be too much for him? I have a feeling it moves you around alot and quickly? I know he is going to want to do whatever his brother and sister do, but wanted to check it out before hand.

Oh, and what about Soarin with my 2 1/2 yo? Any other rides you think I should definitely NOT take him off even though he is tall enough. I won't do the big roller coasters for sure with him!

Thanks so much! We will be there 2 weeks from today! Can't wait! I bought maps off of Ebay and have been marking what we want to do, where we want to eat and all that good stuff. Can't wait!

Indy is fast moving, quick corners, bumpy at spots and there is a quick down. You ride in a big jeep 4 people across, 3-4 rows deep - can't quite remember. Not as stomach lurching as a roller coaster at all, but you are moving quickly. My 8 year old LOVED it. He was not a "thrill" rider kiddo until this trip and we had to put him kicking and screaming on the rides - but he left DL with Space Mountain and BTMRR as his favorites. DD5 was not tall enough to ride Indy - she would have loved it if she would have been tall enough.

DD was 3 - almost 4 when we rode Soarin for the first time in WDW. I had to put lifters in her sneakers to get her to be tall enough (don't tell). She loved loved loved it and I felt safe with her on the ride. But then again she rode TOT that trip too and liked that. haha

Star Tours is in the big starship thing - lots of people in each row - lots of rows with the big movie screen. It is a little more jerky than anything else. The ride doesn't move except jerky side to side and up and down. Does that make sense?

I honestly don't remember much about Indy, because I was laughing too hard the whole time! lol. I know it seem like we never sat still, except for at the "ball" part. It incorporates motion, sound, air blasts, and some other effects.

Star Tours isn't really a "ride" it's a motion simultar. It's like watching a movie in seats that move. It doesn't move a lot or fast, but for some reason DH and I both got VERY sick on this one. Neither of us get motion sickness, and weren't bothered by any other ride. Just a heads up.

Yes it is (IJ) very fast in spots and jerky bumpy try not to be seated on the outside seats, actually the CMs may not seat your smallish child there at all
but I just wanted to say be aware that even if your child measures 40" (or whatever height) at home and you get through The first CM you may be remeasured by the loading CM and it's entirely their call if your child is tall enough. We have had, in the past at the SM line a CM send us thru and the loading CM turned us away. DD was heartbroken so were we. We even spoke to the lead and were told it's at their discretion. We found this to be true on all the height requirement rides. Just be prepared.

Since you haven't been on the rides, you could always check them out first. If the single rider line is open for Indy, leave the kids with your spouse and go on the ride just to see.

Star Tours can feel jerky, most definitely, but you're not moving like you are on Indy. Little tip for Star Tours. There's only a lapbelt on it (same with Indy, by the way), and because the simulator tips forward at times, the littler ones can end up sliding down down down. So it's good to keep your arm out for the little ones to hold onto, or to put your arm sort of on their legs, to try to make sure they don't end up horizontal.


And yes, definitely be sure the kids (if they are right at the height requirement) know that each time you go through the line, you are *seeing IF* you can go again. Especially with the jerky rocky rides, those can knock off millimeters of height from the forces, and a ride you've ridden 3 times in a row can suddenly not be gone off again at that time, because of the jolts. So just go about your day, have a nice night's sleep, and try again the next morning.

It goes a lot better if you remember that it's an "if" situation, for those right at the height line, and make sure you tell them that, too. We once had them put a slip of paper between the top of DS's head and the height stick, and because they could get the paper in between, DS couldn't ride. They take it seriously, and we need to as well.

Is IJ like Dinosaur at WDW? We found that ride pretty jerky, but I don't remember a big fall. Not sure my kids were fond of it after the second time.

I did SW at WDW and the only thing I can do is close my eyes and then I don't get sick. It's just a box that tilts and goes up and down. I assume the SW at DL is generally the same as WDW.

I also closed my eyes for Tot at WDW and by the fifth or six up and straight down, I wanted to get off. It couldn't end soon enough for me! My kids, though, thought its great.

As a grown woman who gets tossed around on Star Tours, I would definately NOT take a small child on the ride. Its difficult to stay in the chair if your feed can't touch the floor....and I would think it would be frightening for a kid. FWIW, I won't take my 4 year old on it.... However, the 4 yr old has ridden Soar'in. He enjoyed it on the ride, but now refuses to do it again "Its too high, Mama"....so, who knows with yours....GL!

Yes Indy is very much like Dinosaur at AK. Same concept, different scenery. Definitely can be jerky. I like to sit on the outside most-then when the rides throws me around I can lean out-more fun that way.

Suggestion, for OP, ask for the first row. Let your DS5 ride in the front seat with the steering wheel. Then he can drive it as well as holding onto the wheel.

Another tip on ST. Don't sit in the back row. Personally I always ask to sit in the back since (at 5'6") my feet don't touch the floor. It really flings you around that way. I love it! Yes, I do have to adjust myself several times during the ride as I keep slipping forward (just like a kid would) But it may be more than you want to handle your first time. All others rows your feet will be on the floor (adults). s the

As far as Soarin' goes, you know your child best. Does he have a fear of heights or falling? If so, then probably best to skip it. For your first time you might want to ask for the third row-it's the row that goes up the least amount. The front row goes up the highest, which is why I love it!

I had the best time riding Star Tours when this guy kept making hilarious Wookie sounds every time we pulled a fast maneuver. Don't think I've laughed so hard on a ride.

Indy is definitely a "thrill" ride but I don't consider it roller coaster-ish at all. It really doesn't ever go that fast in terms of raw speed, it's just jerky/bumpy and swerves back and forth a lot. There are no "free fall" type drops like a roller coaster might have. It's meant to simulate driving in a jeep over rough and rugged terrain. There are "Holy S!" bars in front of each seat to grab and keep yourself steady.

From what the CM told us Indy is the exact same track as Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom.

My 7 yr old daughter was so frightened on IJ that she refused to ride it again for years. I felt horrible that I made the decision to take her on the ride and it turned out so badly. She had ridden coasters before, with inversions, but she was scared to death on the Indy ride.

Having said that, I would also suggest that the I think the Indy ride is far less scary than the Dinosaur ride at AK. Someone else posted that you should ride it first to determine if your son will be OK with it or not, I agree that would probably be the best way to go.

Kids vary so much in their reactions to rides it's hard to say whether your son would be fine or not on IJ, but our experience with DS 6 - also a big Indy movie fan, was that he LOVED this ride - like other posters have said - it's not fast, just jerky with some good "scares" along the way..
Funny, our boy was fine with this and even California Screamin' but petrified by the Haunted Mansion - I felt so bad for not even having considered he would be scared by it..now 7, he is talking about "when we next go back to DL I'll be 8 so I won't be scared by HM anymore..." poor thing! (we are in New Zealand which is why it's a two year gap in between visits)
