Would you "risk" taking Independence Air at the end of January with the rumors of bankruptcy. Its new sale has rates significantly lower than any others $59 compared to next lowest $99. It is for 5 people.

From what city? I wouldn't count on other airlines matching the $59 fare if Independence goes under but they may offer you something under $200 R/T. I think JetBlue is giving discounts to Independence passengers on the west coast routes that are being dropped. I'd only book it if you can handle being split up and can afford to layout the money for your new flight before you get a refund from Independence. The only reason I'd consider it is because the savings $80 R/T for 5 passengers is $400 and I don't the downside will cost you much more than the $200 R/T it would cost if you booked it now. DON'T DO THIS if you're going MLK weekend.

OMG!! We are cursed when it comes to flying to FL!! :guilty: We have driven 8 times and 2 of those we had flights booked to fly. (we have yet to make it to FL via an airline!) Both times our flight was cancelled. Now, we have a flight booked on Independence Air for Feb. 16, 2006 from PMW to MCO. While it will add to our "funny family story" collection, to have our flight cancelled (once again), it will also be a pain this time because we have time issues.

What actuallly happens when an airline goes bankrupt? :confused3

I thought I saw something on the news that other carrierers would have to honor Ind.Air tickets...I guess I would get travel insurance if it was keeping you up at night.

We have tickets booked for the beginning of January on Independence. I haven't heard anything official, so I am crosssing my fingers. My personally, I would still book with them.
