Great MB article from Wired:

"When everything works, the reader flashes green and emits a pleasing tone; if something goes wrong, it glows blue—never red. Red lights are forbidden at Disney, as they imply something bad happened. Nothing bad can happen at Disney World."

Or in the case of the limited edition Halloween magic band, the reader flashes a rainbow of colors and says "Happy Holloween" when used in the MK. There are some other bands that do similar things (limited edition Star Wars Band).

I guess they haven't utilized the "sending a guest a coupon for free ice cream or an additional FP for another ride" option....I have waited far too long in a couple ride queues. That must only be used for "extreme" issues!

No, as it states in the article, if (when) Disney puts all the technology in place throughout the parks it's something they might do. Also, the sentence immediately following that paragraph indicates that no one at Disney is saying that any of this will happen - it's 'pie in the sky' daydreaming, possibly by the author of the piece or possibly by someone at Disney but it's definitely not anything Disney is committing to.
