not sure if anyone here can help me, but worth a shot!

DH's job is currently 35 hours a week.
He's just come across some documents (which he wasn't supposed to see). They state that his manager should tell him about reducing his hours to 25 a week and that would obviously go with a reduction in income.
We can't afford to have his income reduced! He just saw his manager at work and she didn't say anything about having a word with him. But she's the worst manager imaginable (doesn't do anything, when she does do something it's always too late, because of her incompetence wages have been paid late on several occasions, the centre has missed out on thousands of funding, ...).
Can we take out an insurance to protect his income?

:confused3

I don't think there is such an insurance for that situation. Is there any chance your DH can look for another job as his manager does sound rather bad?

Claire ;)

I have one for if im made unemployed to cover the cost of my mortgage etc. This one was recommended on moneysaving expert - http://www.bestinsurance.co.uk

Not sure how it works for reduction of wages though. Also i think you have to be in the policy for 30 days before your covered for it!

Can a company just reduce his hours like that? Does his contract specify how many hours he works?

I agree with Laura - surely your DH must have a contract of employment. I suspect they may have the right to change it with notice or something like that though.

Even so, it would be fraudulent to take out an income protection policy when you already know that this could happen. In addition, as Claire said, I don't think you can buy a policy to insure against income reduction, only complete loss of (in a situation such as redundancy etc.)

Is there any chance he could look around for a part-time job to supplement his income - and maybe start looking for something longer term somewhere else - personally, I wouldn't want to work somewhere where they had such disregard for my well being.
