Incentives going away! Rumor??

I just saw on another site where someone people are reporting their guides are telling them the incentives are going away on Sat. This included the $5 discount. Something about Disney not being about to give a $5 discount for the down payment. The developer points are going away also.

I have to say that we are thinking that Resale is definitely the way to go. If Disney "raises' the price to 112 and gives no incentives, I really don't see how they can get sales other than from the impulsive buyers. I wish I had visited AKV earlier and had been able to purchase it when it was in the 90's from Disney late last year, but now I can just buy it resale.

Just letting everyone what I saw since I haven't seen it on here yet!

My guide has told me that the incentives are changing as of the end of the month - and that other site, if it's the one that I read this afternoon and think you're referring to is usually pretty reliable. I read what you are talking about earlier today, and it doesn't surprise me that they are changing them. I doubt that some sort of incentives will be gone for long - what they'll offer I can't say, but I'm sure there will be something.

What my guide said is that the $5/point incentive is staying, but that it can only be applied in addition to the normal down payment for those financing through Disney. He said he thought there would be no difference for those paying cash.

Resale prices are looking really good right now. Dh and I want to add on about 160 pts. and unless Disney comes out with one heck of an incentive we'll definately be going the resale route, the cruise doesn't do a thing for us so for now we're waiting to see what happens after the 28th and if Disney doesn't offer anything we'll buy resale. I seriously doubt that incentives are going away for good, if they did the only way Disney would get any sales would be through impulse buys and people who can't get financing any place else (I hear Disney is very leinient with their financing).

I just got a flyer telling me if I bought 100 points I could get a cruise...

Are you a new buyer or is this just an add on?? They have been giving out the cruise incentive for a while now. You only had to add on 100 points. But for new purchases it is 160 minimum buy in. I did hear this was going away at the end of March, so if you are thinking about it you may want to call the guide!

I am not new, its 100 points for me ...160 for a new buyer. For a free 3 night cruise in an Oceanview stateroom for four. Cruise can be booked from August 27th 2009 thru 2010. Block out date apply.

Too rich for me right now...

I added on today 100 at VGC and my guide told me that as of the 28th incentives are changing and she said that meant that the $5/point at VGC and cruise were going away. Maybe that is just for add-ons, not sure though.:confused3

If there are points to sell, I have to imagine they'll keep offering incentives, especially with this economy.

One of the things I was told several times when we bought in March, 2009 was that people were buying into DVC in droves, which surprised me given the current economic climate. While I'm sure that some sort of incentive will be announced, I wouldn't be surprised if it was weaker than the previous offer. Disney only needs incentives to entice people to buy. If they are already buying, Disney doesn't need to give away the farm. That said, I will be keeping an eye on this closely. We close at the end of April and are eligible to change incentives if we find one better than the discounted point/cruise deal.

Remember, although Disney may want to improve sales, they are better off not increasing volume at a loss of profit. Once they sell, the future profit is locked in, forever.

I believe that there will always be some sort of incentive for buyers. It's just that they change the incentives offered from time to time.

I don't see how all incentives are going to go away. Resale must be killing DVC right now. There are some really great resales up on The Timeshare Store. Our friends are looking into joining, and they won't go to Disney direct because she could be saving about 40% going through TTSS. You'd think DVC has to be aware of this. They'd most assuredly have to keep the incentives going....and better ones at that.
