I just took care of business today. I had piles of items needing to be returned. I had receipts for some, and others I was waiting to find the receipt. Well, I finally got sick of the pile and took care of it. I came home with:

$58.97 in Cash
$49.29 store credit for JCPenny
$31.85 store credit for Home Depot
$92.77 store credit for Lowes

I know that some of the items I returned were past the 90 period (like HD and Lowes), but they are store staples and not seasonal. They still have them on the shelves, and I would gladly take the store credit they offered without the receipt.

Point is, that's $232.88 lying around my house that is now usable money.:goodvibes

Thanks for this reminder. I have a couple outfits that I bought for my daughters a month ago, and they need to be returned. Tomorrow's actually an excellent day for me to do this.

We have a rather sick little buy-and-return game going on here in my house. Neither of my daughters enjoys shopping, so I tend to go out alone and buy them things, with the understanding that at least half of what I buy will be returned. Not typical teens, are they?

I just returned a ton of unused tiles from our bathroom remodel and got $76 in store credit. I will buy my laundry detergent with that. Thanks for the reminder, I am motivated to look around some more!

Your post reminded me of a few returns I need to make tomorrow. I have my receipts (for all but one thing, that one thing I'm hoping to make an exchange), and my to-do list.

Thanks! :)

We deal with a LOT of buy and return. DS hates to go shopping. So I do the whole buy it and try it out thing with him. And with the home reno... don't even get me started there.

Did any of you have a good system for it? I bought DS some pants before school started, when there were a ton of sizes to choose from, knowing the 90 day return policy, but I lost the receipt. Everything still had tags, because we didn't need pants until recently, but he did outgrown some of the pants. He is such a hard size, got his Daddy's long waistedness, shorter legs... Any tips for dealing with all this?

What is JC Penney's policy on returns without a receipt? We got some clothing for DD that I know came from there because it's JCP's brand, but the gifter didn't include a gift receipt. I'd like to return it but I'd hate to waste a trip if they won't take it back, or will only give me a few $ for it. (I assume it's new merchandise, it's current season clothing.)

any tags on them?
they have a 90 day return policy-
from what info I have received-
w/no receipt she would get the lowest 30 day sale price back.

Last week I took my mother to return tile samples, tiles & unused plumbing parts back to Lowes-(the tiles were too heavy for her to carry)with everything she got back around $65...better than keeping the stuff-which she couldn't use :thumbsup2

I confirm this. With no receipt JCPenny's will give you store credit in the amount of the lowest price the item sold for within the prior 30 days. Store credit only.

This is what I'm talking about! The stores haven't really lost much revenue with their easy return policies. They make it so easy to buy, because everyone knows that you can bring the thing back without any hassles. Then I think that the majority of people keep forgetting to do their returns, or they just don't want to bother. Bother! Deal! It's worth it!:thumbsup2

They do have tags on, but no prices. I guess I'll look at their website to see if I see the same things & find out what the prices are. Thanks!

I had JUST said to DH that I am going on a return run today!! I have to hit Michael's, Walmart & Kohl's - I also have Disney Store stuff that I have to get from my mom's. It was to be Christmas presents for our Jan WDW trip - but DH lost his job, so the trip is off. It would be pretty mean to give my kids Disney suitcases now;)

Yup, getting my stuff together today.

Bought a $100 video camera that has issues. Taking it back.
Sending back and item I can't use......$200
Getting reimbursed for an item $118 for scouts

Also listing a few items on ebay this week or next that I no longer use.

:thumbsup2

glad to know I am not the only one who buys stuff and then has to return it cause the kids don't like it. I'm working on my pile to make a run later this week.

I need to do this also. We bought a new home in June, and we are still working on getting window treatments up in all of the rooms. So hard to tell if something is right in a window without putting it up, and the result is that I have a bunch of curtains to return!

I think I will try and do this Wednesday when my youngest is in pre-school. At least it is nice to know I am not alone in getting piles to return.

I try not to do it too often and only do it when necessary. I have three young boys to cart around shopping.....so it is NOT easy!

I have a single friend who shops for recreation and she returns stuff all the time....just changes her mind and she is heading out shopping anyway, so she returns it.

But the camera I bought has never worked properly and Costco has a great return policy so I am going to do it and get a different camera.

Speaking of this......

I have 2 items I received as gifts that I can't use. How can I find a place to return them to?

There is no gift receipt.

Thanks,

Dawn

I got back almost $200 today - wooot! I still have to go to Michael's, Kohls and The Disney Store - so prob another $150ish will be coming my way.

Thanks for the motivation!

Way to go!

I took back a pair of shorts that have been lying around FOREVER. Inexpensive, but still. I got another $3+ to spend at Academy! Every little bit helps! And I love getting rid of the excess around the house!:thumbsup2

Me too. :)

I got about $40 in returns today. No cash. Gift certificates. That's okay. It's still money to me.

I also filled a large bag with donations to declutter. I do this weekly, sometimes more.

Whenever you can turn a useless thing lying around the house into cash or any cash equivalent, you've done yourself a big favor! Congrats on getting store credit! Just in time for the holiday! :thumbsup2
