Also no umbrellas, laser pointers ('cause we all carry them), thermoses, coolers, and signs. And there will be no "child care" facilities.

And check your hotel reservations. Many hotels are reneging on their original rate quotes and are doubling or even tripling them for the whole weekend. Even those reservations made 6 months in advance are being changed.

I know several Disers are planning aon going and thought I'd pass on the latest. I don't know how much of this gets reported outside of DC.

I would imagine security will be very tight, as it should be.

Most of this info is common for any event (although the hotel thing is sketchy) but there are lots of people who come into the District that aren't used to the restrictions. Every event ends up with a pile of confiscated items (including strollers, diaper bags, backpacks, etc.) and some really mad people.

Also - as the date gets closer, expect a long list of road closures for the day. No one should plan on driving into the city for this event. You will still end up parked miles away from the event.

I was planning on taking the Metro from Shady Grove but I'm sure that will be packed.

I used to get off at Farragut North station when I worked at the White House but I'm not sure what metro lines will be fully operational.

You think fanny packs are OK? My dd is going with her high school.

I'd think that would be OK.

They are looking to ban anything big and bulky or would cause a security problem.

btw - that includes portable chairs (even the folding ones that fit in that cute little bag).

Hope she has fun. Just make sure she has LOTS of layers and really crappy shoes on. Even when it's freezing, that number of people on the mall churn up a lot of mud and gunk.

Thanks....so an extra pair of shoes might be a good idea.:thumbsup2

I was going to go from Shady Grove too. But I'm only going if I actually get an inaguration ticket from the Senator.

I wonder if I can take the MARC train directly from Frederick?
