Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I thought the medal looked cool before the expo and great after.

Frank they could have just used some Tot pictures even!

And here is a photo of the half medal taken at the DL expo:

The relay medal is very similar, just a bit smaller.

Mommy like . . . thanks for sharing!

I forgot - do we not find out corral placement until we go to packet pick up, or do we "pre-confirm" online?

I am pretty certain the corral placement will be on the waiver you print out ahead of time.

I had a bit of a setback in my training. I came down with a cold on Tuesday that pretty much killed my week. It wouldn't be too bad except I have a half marathon on Sunday that is part of a racing series and I need to run it. I think I am recovered enough to do it but will find out tonight when I go out and do a run to see how I feel. I'm looking at the bright side though, if I had to miss a race due to illness I'd rather miss the one starting literally 1.5 miles from my house then either of the upcoming Disney races.

Good luck, Frank! There must be something going around everywhere! Everyone I know in my area has been sick with a cold, and it's going through my family. I have it now but hopefully it's soon enough for me to recover and continue my running for the W&D 5K. I think it has something to do with kids going back to school and bringing back a bunch of germs!

Hope you're feeling better... I have had an awful week, too. Runner's knee FULL on that has kept me to a whopping 3.5 miles this week, total. With Philly only 9 days out, I'm a little freaked. I feel a lot better today after doing about 200 leg lifts last night.

At the Disneyland 1/2 and at WDW in January we just printed out our waivers before hand that had our number on it. It did not have what Corral you were in until you actually picked up your bib. So I imagine Wine and Dine would be the same way. I'm not sure how the Princess worked though.

They used to give us our Corral Assignments ahead of time....

Hope everyone gets well soon!! Especially if you have races soon. That's so frustrating.

I love the medal. Can't wait.

I've been debating about getting my mom a ticket to the finish line party. I'm slower than turtles wading through peanut butter, so I thought this would give her something to do while she waits and waits and waits for me to finish. I noticed on the website that the Finish Party Guide Map was up but I couldn't access it. Has anyone seen this? Curious what's open for the party hours.

Have a great weekend!

I got my boyfriend a ticket for the party -- now wondering if I should buy him a chEAR squad ticket as well.

I think I'm coming down with something too :(. I have felt a heaviness in my chest for the past few days and a sore throat when I wake up. I've been practically drowning myself in O.J., vitamins, and water and washing my sheets/pillowcases constantly. Usually this stops all sicknesses so I'm hoping it does this time too.

I still haven't purchased my park tickets or rental car but hopefully will do so this weekend or Monday.

I have felt very burned out from running lately. I remember reading a book called Ice Castles back in the day about a girl in a small town who loved figure skating and the freedom that came with it. Long story short she became a competitive ice skater and found when she was ice skating constantly it felt very binding and structured (she also became blind trying to get that feeling back). I missed the freedom of just going out and running for running's sake and not having a mileage I had to make or pace I felt pressured to keep. So I had a couple of weeks of just going out and running and not caring what mileage I did or time I was making and I think it got me back on course. I guess I'm ready? (how's that for enthusiasm?)

I'm excited about the race but also feel nervous and anxious (which I'm sure is completely normal). I don't know what I'm going to wear yet. I thought about just my longer compression shorts (oh, and a top :) ) but I don't know if they would become see-through with the flash of a camera at night (I know, who thinks about these things?).

I felt the same way about cycling, always checking the computer, and worrying about my speed. When it broke I never replaced it, and now I just ride.

I never thought of that either. But what corral are you in? :)

Three weeks to go! Have a good weekend!

Here is what the Bib will look like if anyone is interested.

You are too funny, turtles wading through peanut butter! I suppose we will be good company running then :rotfl: I could not get that map to open either...hopefully I can sometime soon to check it out. I was also a little worried about how the spectators might get around/which entrance of EPCOT do you think they would go to at 10:30 for the party?

I will have to find you to say hello at least (if you dont mind a crazy DISer tracking you down at dinner :rotfl:)!! Maybe that way there will be a familar face for Saturday night as well :goodvibes Our ADR is for 9:10 pm, but I am going to make sure to arrive early to hopefully catch some of Hallowishes. We couldnt afford to do the party :sad2: but I am hoping we can at least see those fireworks :thumbsup2

Definitely do that! I am so looking forward to that bread pudding! I wonder if that counts as carb-loading! :rotfl:

Good luck this weekend Frank--feel better!:)

I spoke to the Disney reps at the DL expo and they didn't have very much info about the after-party, said the details were still being worked out - which I find very strange since it is so close. I was told that all the details will be in the final instructions that come out a couple of weeks before the event. Anne called and spoke to someone at WWoS about the after-party and she was told that no attractions were going to be open - just the food kiosks, which just can't be right because who would pay to get into the party to then have the only thing to do is pay for food:confused3

I also asked about transportation - there will be shuttles from Epcot to the start at WWoS for those who want their cars at the race finish. When I mentioned that people at non-host resorts could just take the regular resort bus to Epcot to catch shuttles she said she didn't think that would work:confused3. I don't know why it wouldn't. For ToT I took a regular resort bus from Pop to MGM without any problems.....I guess the difference is where the WWoS shuttles will be in relation to where the resort buses drop off.....good thing I have a ride!

I also told the Disney rep that most people liked to know the logistics details more than two weeks ahead of time. She seemed a little puzzled by that!

I went out and did a quick 3 miles to make sure I wasn't going to kill myself running the half on Sunday and I think I'll be fine. It was far from my best run but not bad and I do still have over a day. Thanks for the well wishes.

Pat- I really hope they have some attractions opened. For the runners it wouldn't be terrible to not have them (though I'd be disappointed) but if they charge people to basically watch their friends or family finish and then wander around buying food that would be pretty bad.

I was thinking that Mexico and Norway would be opened so we could go on the two rides in WS and maybe England, France, and Canada since two of them have movies and that is the area we are finishing in. At least those are the ones I'd have opened if I were in charge.

I also don't see any reason why you can't take the bus to Epcot. I've found over the years that many people at Disney don't know much outside of their own division.

As fun as doing an inaugural event is you do have to deal with them not having all the kinks worked out but Disney doesn't really have the same excuses as normal events since they have more control.

Wow! Sounds like a mess...I just hope they really weren't "in the know". ;)

This is so true... During marathonweekend we purposely ask really simple questions of the front desk, concierge and other cast members on the day we arrive. The responses are amazing It is clear that CM are only given details of the immediate future i.e. the day they are working. A few will say wait a minte let me check and come back with answers.... but not any better than those who venture a guess.

Oh the questions?

- where will the marathon bus pick me up?
- when do the marathon busses start?
- will there be some place to purchase food on race morning?
- How do I get (name the marathon point) to see my runner?

The answers do eventually start to to be factual and correct the day the expo starts for bussing and the day before for race day questions. 2-3 years ago I butted in at the BWV concierge desk to answer a question and ended up answering question from many others who were in line. I butted in because the CM was telling a runner they could walk to the start.... definitely not the correct answer from BWV

Are there typically buses to WWOS from all the resorts?

I've only been there for the TOT, and that time I walked from BCV to Hollywood, then took a bus from there.

This time I was planning to take one of the Epcot busses or bus hop fr AKV to one of the host resorts. Of course, by the time I do that I guess I could just take a cab.:rolleyes1
