What did Bambi's mother tell him?
If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say nothin at all!

:rolleyes1

I believe it was Thumper's mother :flower:

Either way, I don't mind cheers or boos, but that is enough. No need to start shouting abuse!

actually respect is an emotion and something that inside you can do whatever you like with. However, I think you should "show" respect whether you feel it or not.

So you're saying that you should show someone respect even if you feel they don't deserve it? I'm not saying you MUST show them disrespect...I'm saying, that if you do not respect someone, you shouldn't have to go out of your way to make them feel like you do.

Bottom line: I don't show respect to anyone who doesn't show me or my people respect.

THAT is inappropriate. Anyone who uses that kind of language outside of their hotel room (or Pleasure Island) in WDW is incredibly disrespectful to the families around them.

I agree that this is NOT the place for free speech by the audience. The free speech being exercised is by Disney and as a free people, we have the right to watch the show or leave. Leaving is the 'personal protest' that would be appropriate. It is not an interactive show. The "Presidents" will not respond to the audience.

I also don't understand why people feel the need to voice their opinions to a dummy. I don't believe they record it and play the tape for the actual men.

I also don't understand what the 'boo-ers' wish to have happen. Because you don't like the President, you don't want him to be President or on display at the Hall of Presidents? Isn't that a little like an ostrich? Do you want Disney to not add the new President? What if your person is elected next time? Do you still want Disney to not add new Presidents? Or should they add only Republicans? Oh, only Democrates?

I think it comes down to a very basic concept. If you can not possibly politely, tolerate the mere image of a person that is going to be in the show, don't go to the show. If enough people agree with you and boycot the show, it will be taken out, made seasonal, whatever. That is your freedom.

Well now we're getting somewhere. We're not as far off of opinions here as you may think.

When I say respect, Im not saying you need to act like the President is God himself. Im not saying you have to go out of your way to applaud him. By respect I am saying that if you dislike him immensly, and you are in the theatre of HOP, simply keep it to yourself. To me, that is respect. In this sense, respect is simply being considerate.

Lets keep all of this under control and civilized as it is a great thread and we don't want to get it closed. Also keep it related to the attraction and not strictly politics.

Okay, this is getting ridiculous. We are talking about robots, not people! Your post makes it sound like these robots are or are not deserving of respect, as if they were human. The point of all this is not whether you respect or disrespect the president the robot represents. The point is that it's inconsiderate and selfish to shout, boo, cheer, or make any audible sounds during a show where you are expressly requested to keep quiet.

This is simply not a free speech issue. Remember, yelling "FIRE" when there is no fire in a crowded theater is a crime in most places, even though we all have the free speech right to say "Fire" in almost any other context. However, the context of yelling "FIRE" when there is no fire in a crowded theater can lead to panic and unnecessary injury of people rushing to evacuate the phantom fire. While making noise in HoP isn't as extreme an example of this, it definitely is an example of impeding other guests' right to enjoy their vacations peacefully, especially when silence is expressly requested in the beginning of the show.

I've even hauled our girls out of the show when they were babies for crying. I realize other guests want to hear that about as much as some stranger's political views.

While I do agree with you, and I follow the same logic as you -
I don't have a problem with other people who do feel the need to express themselves every once in a while. I come from a very vocal group of people (my family and friends consist of hippies and punks), so I say if you have something to say, say it. I may not do this, but I would never penalize others for it.

Just so everyone knows, I see how it could get really annoying after a while if they kept making comments, but I really don't think they mean to bother anyone in the attraction.

People applaud during other attractions as well that don't ask you to - (and I've heard many "boo" Gaston in BATB), but if it's okay for people to applaud in other attractions, I don't think it should be a problem to applaud of boo in this one. I'm just trying to be fair here.

haha, i'll bet that family felt a lot better about themselves after booing animatronics........

it's not a pep rally, it's a ride. how lame........

maybe disney can record an announcement right before the show telling everyone keep shushed or else you'll be kicked out .....

hehe.

Well Im sure Hippies wouldn't appreciate your comments, basically labeling them as loudmouths and punks.

However, you can voice your opinion but I find it completely inapropriate that you could justify someone screaming out comments in HOP. You say they dont mean to bother anyone? So why do they do it? The presidents can't hear it, only people in the room trying to watch can hear it. So you don think they are not trying to bother anyone?

They are attention starved and because they are not bold enough to voice their opinions in a true protest manner to true government officials they do it in the places where only others of their own stature can hear it.

Just truly pointless. I dont think Hall of the Presidents is the place for this and its going to be people like that which are going to start prompting Disney to make a BIG issue out of silence, which I think is rediculous that they would even have to tell people that.

If you are by your own admission a loudmouth hippy, fine. However that still does not give you anymore right than anyone else to sit there and be beligerent. Being a hippy is not a green light to do whatever you want. You still live under the laws of the land and those on private property.

I still say - just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

I'm done with this one. :wave2:

I could be wrong, but I'm almost positive the CM's ask for silence before the recorded stuff starts. That should be enough to keep people quiet, IMHO, but I guess it's not in some cases, like in the OP's unlucky visit to HoP.

Again, as someone said, yes Dissent IS in a sense. However, there is a time and place for Dissent and it should be organized and not in a chaotic manner...
...I think some people take words at face value and don't put effort into thinking things out. Dissent is patriotic if done in the proper manner. Disrupting the peace during a show that people have looked forward to seeing and have paid money to see is not patriotism.

That was me, and no, I'm not one to take words at face value.

Upon re-reading my post, I realize I may not have made myself clear. I didn't mean to say that booing at the HOP was patriotic. I was merely pointing out that it is not unpatriotic, as the OP claimed.

I agree that is it disruptive and tacky to yell out any sort of comment at any event where guests are tying to listen to something. But it's not unpatriotic just because it's against a president.

I don't think you understand - my family and friends are actually hippies and punk rockers. 2 completly different categories I was stating there... Both groups are very vocal people...not "loudmouths"...vocal... that's all I was saying -

And no, they don't say it to "bother" anyone - they are usually not there alone, and they're doin' it for a laugh with their friends. Again, I'm not trying to make enemies here. Maybe I really should just take my opinions elsewhere...

With that stance further expanded on, I fully agree with you.

Admins: I think this debate has exhausted itself.

It has been completely mature and I appreciate everyone's responses.

If we could, close it down now before someone with less maturity comes along and causes a huge immature debate that has my screen name on the title.

Thanks everyone!
