Inappropriate Behavior From an Uncle or Not?

No this is not about a 'good touch / bad touch' situation.

My niece, who is 25 years old and generally shares my libertine sensibilities is going to WDW in a few weeks.

Knowing I frequently visit the Disney Store, she asked me to keep an eye out for a really cool T-Shirt for her.

Instead, I went online and found her this:

My mother is appalled but I think my niece would think it's funny. I expect it crosses a few lines but ... come on, really?

This isn't something that would have you scheduling an intervention is it? Keep in mind, we have a pretty high tolerance for smut across the board in my family.

In any case, I thought it was funny.

Did you buy this for her or just send her the pic? Is this your niece or just a random internet anonymous model?

I assume you know she couldn't and shouldn't wear this out to the parks or anywhere in public for that matter.

The pic is from the vendor. I haven't ordered it yet.

I'm guessing she makes it through a day at the park without anyone even noticing.

I find it inappropriate. It may or may not be found inappropriate and trigger a reaction from a CM at the park.

Umm, no way she makes it through the park without anyone noticing :rotfl:

I do think it is inappropriate coming form an uncle, personally. If one of my uncles gave me this, I would be pretty weirded out.

I'm guessing she won't make it in the park or will be made to change and this thread will disappear soon enough.

I agree with your mom. It is inappropriate in my eyes.

People will notice. Isn't that the point of the shirt?

I bet a LOT of people will notice. That's really inappropriate for anyone to wear into a Disney park (or anywhere other than an adults-only party, where it would be HILARIOUS but ONLY there*).

And while we don't have a daughter, if my husband bought such a thing for his sister's daughters, things would hit the fan, and hard. It would NOT be OK.

*So...does it actually come with the Mickey sitting on the shoulder like that?

I too find it inappropriate and if one of my daughters uncles ever bought her that there would be words.

Totally inappropriate! If you, as my daughter's uncle sent this to her I would be thinking of you as a pervert.

I used to have a shirt similar to this but it was skeleton hands. Normally I didn't care what people thought of it, but I also wasn't wearing it in a family oriented park. Since I don't know your family dynamic I won't comment on if it's an appropriate gift in general, but people here are right in that in all likelihood someone in that park will be offended by it and a CM will also likely ask her to cover it up or get a different shirt. So to me I think it's silly to even risk it knowing that's the probable outcome.

Agreed. Inappropriate for a male relative to buy for a female relative.

Inappropriate to wear to the park. I would hope they would make her change. There are children there that grow up to quickly as it is.

Very inappropriate and awkward!!

Can I make a suggestion? I find a lot of the men's shirts pretty cool with the designs that have Mickey DJing or something. It is really easy to cut a men's t-shirt and transform it into a hip, unique shirt for girls. In the past I've bought a t-shirt that has a hip hop style Mickey Mouse on it and made it into a tube top (required sewing). I love it and wear it to the parks all the time! Here is a youtube tutorial as an example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZlW6GspLls

It's an option. Another is just the mouse ears, which I found to be even more off-putting.

Also, keep in mind the girls almost 30 years old (27, 2 years older than my guestimate of 25). I'm getting it because we share a twisted sense of impropriety.

Though enough people poo-pooed the idea that I had to check with my sister in law. As it turns out, the niece is going to disney for a sorority or alumni function (couldnt tell which, maybe alumni sorority sisters or something). SIL loved it and is ordering for the whole group. It wont be going into the parks, just to a private reception.

My uncle would never buy me this shirt, but he would probably send me a pic of it and say he thought of me. I thought it was funny.

:thumbsup2 I feel the same way. I would NOT let my daughter wear this either.

I showed this to two of my children and they both said it was inappropriate. Thank goodness they feel the same way that I do!

This would not fly in my family either and if my brother or BIL purchased it for my DD, I would have a chat with him. If my DH thought that this would be a cute idea for one of my nieces, he would be subjected to a meeting that he would not soon forget. It is not okay.

When I was 9 my mother helped me make a halloween costume where I looked lile a traditional donkey pinata except I was broken open and had realistic entrails flying out instead of candy.

I'm just saying, every family's unique.

If you bought that for my DD it would not leave the house. It can be funny and I probably wouldn't mind a night shirt in the house but in public no.
