Oh boy, I can't believe I just did that.

I bought a Herbal Essences home hair highlighting kit today, and was on a mission to add some dark blonde highlights to my medium reddish brown hair. I mixed up the dye, put it in, and five minutes later, realized I had forgotten to add the developing creme to the dye! I called the 800 number, which recommended washing it out (which I'd already done before I called). I told her that it was now light blonde near the roots, and a reddish orange color further down. The girl from the 800 number says that I'll have to go to a salon to get it fixed- yuck!

I am not feeling very smart today, but at least I got a huge laugh at how horrible my hair looks!

Poor hair!

So so sorry to hear this! It is so easy to leave out one thing. The other thing that you could do is get a temp colr and put it through al your hair. You will get the highlights you wanted because the lighter hair will pick up the color differently and it should help even out the color. The wash out in 28 washes is very safe and mild. (Can't hurt!)

Good luck!

I second what Pumbaa_ said. Jsut get something made by the same company. In this case that would be loving care or natural instincts. From what you described as your hair color I'd suggest a medium to dark golden blonde.
After your next trim/hair cut and the 6weeks for the color to wash out, I'd suggest one of hte new nice and easy pernamant colors wiht built in highlights, that is a little lighter than your natural color. Most colors will turn darker than what you think, so if you consider yourself med brow, you'll likely have light brown on the color charts. I'd suggest something in the dark reddish blonde range.

BTW I'd not a cosmetologist, but my mother is, and I've had to call her on the phone in tears many times when younger. I've had about every hair color diaster you could imagine. Now I've larned what I can and can not do, and I have fun with it. I'm covering up blonde ends right now with natural instincts. I'm trying to see what my har really looks like. DH joked the other day that he didn't remember ever seeing my natural har color. From the looks of it so far, I think we'll both be shocked at how much grey I've got.

When I was a teenager I decided to give myself some highlights the night before my senior prom. I could have fit into the skunk family fairly easily. Dark brown and white did not mix very well. I cried all night, and the next morning my mom took me to a salon to fix my handy work. She had to strip the color off of my hair, and color my hair back to the shade of my natural haircolor. Boy, did I learn a lesson the hardway!

Some things are just not meant to be done at home....LOL

You poor thing!

I have been green a few times myself, I can relate.

The only problem with your plan Sha_Lyn is that it may be grey!
That happened to me! I finally decided to stop coloring my hair only to find I have way more grey then I should at 37!
So I am back to coloring to hide the grey. Go figure (but I do like the red I am now ;))

Bad Shawn, BAD! pictures, ROTFLMAO!

I'm 35, and come from a family where my moms side doesn't turn grey. I thought I had it made, but looks like Itake after dads side. Honestly my granmother had fewer greys than I do now, when she died at 79. My aunt is 70 and has only a couple, mom is 62 and has just a few.
At least I did start turning grey in high school like a couple of classmates did. Also DH's brother started going bald at 28.

I remembered that I had a bottle of my usual hair color, so I decided to take a chance and try dying it back. While I was letting it dye, I came on here to find that some of you had suggested doing just that, so that was very reassuring!

The results?

Here are the original Blonde Spots of Doom

And after dying it Caribbean Mohogany...

Its hard to see in the photos, but the spots where the blonde used to be are REALLY red.
