We typically go to Orlando 2-3 times per year. Always stayed onsite by paying for delux or DVC. Then we traded with II and for the last couple of years we have been staying at offsite Marriott with II trades.

I don't mind staying off site for Orlando (on some level I prefer it) but I miss Vero Beach.

Here is my plan - what do you all think?

Buy a small resale contract for Vero Beach (maybe 50-75 points). Bank and borrow to take one trip every 2-3 years or so.

Then if needed, buy transfer points from others.

If my thoughts are correct. This will save me the initial upfront cost. If I decide to transfer, let's assume I pay $10 per point. Up againt the fees for Vero I would be out about $3.50 a point (give or take).

So, if say transfer 100 points - then my out of pocket to say would be about $350.....which in the end I would recoup with the discount off annual passes.

Does this make sense?
Anyone see any downfalls to this?

I think you have a well thought out plan. However I also think you will find it's not enough points-jmo. Initially I say start small and then add on if you find you need to.
When we bought in we had a solid number in mind for our vacation needs. Then it turns out that everyone would like to go with you on vacation. I have a list as long as my arm. My mom and grandma are going with us this spring, My sister in law and a couple we are friends with have been asking about taking another trip with us. Another set of friends want to go with us- they just had their first visit and want to go again. We had another couple who went on our points twice buy in and we are planning a trip together this fall. I am about to become stingy and not take anyone else on our points because we are looking at buying more points to accomodate friends and family and that is just silly.

I would buy at Saratoga Springs Resort via resale as well as Vero. SSR contracts run through 2054, Vero Beach will end in 2042. Maintenance fees are higher at Vero than at WDW resorts. Another thought is that Disney has the right to change rules regarding booking at other resorts.
Bottom line, buy the quantity of points for what you would potentially want to do at Vero, in case you are not able to use them at WDW someday.

It is my understanding that trading into Vero with other home resorts can be difficult. Is this true?

I have a 5 YO and I can see a trip or two that would be during school vacation weeks. That is why I was going to have Vero as our home resort.

We own both VB and SSR, we bought VB for Spring Break(which usually is around Easter week) and the 11 month window. No problem booking. We only use our VB points for VB stays. Here's me when I look at the dues bill for VB:headache:, but that fades away once I get down there.

What holidays are you looking at? Thanksgiving we just stay at SSR, never tried the 7 month window. Now we go down for MLK weekend, end of 1st sememster 4 day weekend. No problem booking 2brs at BCV/BWV-BW view or BLT.

I don't plan on using it for Orlando DVC. Just Vero.
If I were to own it this year - I would have been looking for the following as possiblities. These are the same options I believe I would want in years to come also.

March 17th to the 20th.
Time during week of April 17th.
Memorial Day weekend.
Columbus Day weekend.

I think that it makes sense because you are buying the Vero contract to use at Vero.

I think that getting the transfer of points will work but just remember, you are only allowed one transfer in/out of your membership per UY.

With your plan, you do need to think about this when getting points. For example, if you plan to go more than once per year to WDW, you would have to secure enough points with that one transfer to cover both.

Other than that, I do think it could work.

Good luck!
