Im currently at WDW now and just came back from the most humiliating experience @ the open house.

We wanted current info on possible contracts available for older resorts - I was wanting to look into BCV or BWV or VWL and the person at the park said that I would need to go into the SSR compound to get that info.

As I had already seen the tour last year and wanted to keep consistency (as well as re-contact the guide we had previously) I mentioned that I was already in the system and would like to see the same guide, if possible. I also assumed that this was commissioned based and Im a strong believer that you dance with the person who brought you.

Anyway, we go in and ask for some current info, the pros and cons about buying and older home DVC vs. new and mentioned that we would want to pay cash rather than finance and that in terms of timing, we would be ready to sign in the new year.

Well...after that, the meeting became incredibly rushed and the guide had the audacity to say to me as she gave me the incentive for coming that "Just so you know, Disney only gives out 2 incentives per family, so in case you were thinking of coming by here again..."

I had never felt so little in all my life. I personally could care less about a freaking gift card after the thousands I have paid for this vacation so far. She made me feel I was milking the system when all I wanted to do was to re-connect with her and let her know that we would be dealing with her when the time came.

Now after being treated this way, I'm looking to get some recos from anyone who can refer me to a guide who will treat me with some respect and not make me feel so humiliated.

any help or info greatly appreciated!

I don't want to sound unsympathetic, but if this is the worst experience in your life, it really is not too bad.

Simply ask for a new guide and explain your reasons to the manager.

I hear you. I do not know what is up with some of these guides. We are owners at BWV. Last December we scheduled a day to look at BLT. We went over there and the guide that walked us down the hall didn't even greet us or say one word to us. We arrived at the unit, looked around, and had some questions. She was deeply engrossed in a conversation with another guide. I asked her very politely if it was possible to see the pool area or the top of the world lounge. She replied very curtly, no. I turned away to find my son and she screams at me "you're welcome."

Fast forward 11 months and we just bought at BLT from a local guide at the Doorway to Dreams store. * lost a nice sale due to RUDE behavior and could care less attitude.

I am not sure I would take it personally (although I can see how it would be hard not to do so). They probably get people who come through countless times trying to milk the system. I would imagine when they get the same guest multiple times they are told to inform you that there are limits on the incentives, otherwise they probably would be forced to give the incentive every time - since they didn't give notice.

I would bet it was nothing personal towards you, although perhaps she needed to work on her delivery. :goodvibes

FYI, this thread was edited as 1) we do not allow DVC Guide's names to be published with negative commentary as they are not allowed to post here and therefore cannot defend themselves, and 2) we do not allow referrals for Guides names at this time as the current incentive program only allows a benefit paid to the referring member, not the prospective buyer. Thanks all!

Just go the Timeshare Store they will treat you like you are suppose to be treated. Seems pretty unprofessional to me.

I agree... The Timeshare Store is the way to go for older Resorts... and more affordably. You may even find that you can buy two smaller contracts, at different resorts and have 11 month booking at more than one resort.
Good luck!

I went to the member event at the TOWL at BLT and the guide who ran the meeting was very clear about the availability of points at the "sold out resorts" and offered everyone the chance to speak with a guide while there to get the info they needed. If you have time you might want to attend that presentation but as others have said the purchase price will be less if you go the resale route. Good luck.

mch04049 & robertdangelo,
Thanks for your kind words. At The Timeshare Store, Inc., we have all sorts of inventory at all 10 DVC Resorts. We would love the chance to show you an option other that buying directly through Disney.:cool1::banana:

For the time a tour takes, the gift card is hardly worth the time it takes away from ones Disney Vacation. They should realize that if you are there, you are serious about owning whether now or in the future.
My guide has never rushed or pressured me and I think very highly of him.

We too had an excellent guide. He had been doing it for more than a decade, and he gave a good overview. He kept saying that he could beat the resale price "all day long" with his incentives, and we didn't find that to be the case. However, he was very respectful, and he called us twice after we left.

We ended up going with the Timeshare Store, and we were very pleased with our decision. However, the tour with the guide helped us understand DVC and we very informative.

Sorry that you had a bad experience. I agree with the other responders that suggested that you should report the person to a supervisor.

DVD has become a marketing machine and the pressures on the Guides to sell the targeted proprieties has really increased.

There are other proprieties available other than the new resorts, but they don't want to talk about them or sell them unless you really push. They also are told to sell the targeted UY and not even mention that other UY's are available.

:earsboy: Bill

Just a reminder here that we do not allow "referrals" of DVC Guides due to the fact that only the referring member receives monetary awards for doing so. If DVC allows both parties to receive awards (as they did in the past) then we will reconsider the policy at that time.

Thanks everyone!

Why would someone go to DVC directly, take the guides time to explain everything and show them the accommodations, then turn around and buy resale? You do know the guide makes their money on commission, yet you took time away from them and they didn't get compensated. :confused3

Am I the only one who thinks this is wrong?

We bought resale and have never met with a guide or taken a tour. We might have, though, if we had been seriously thinking about buying DVC during one of our trips even though I would have checked out resale options before buying direct. It would have been nice to see a model before we purchased, but I felt ok buying based on pictures and our experiences at other Disney resorts. Some people meet with a guide, go home, do some research and then discover the resale market. I suppose there are some who plan to buy resale, but they have never stayed in a DVC unit and want to see a model before they buy. Or maybe they want to give DVC a chance to offer something that sways them to buy direct. Like any salesperson, the DVC guides have to expect that they are going spend time on people who ultimately don't buy from them.

I would not say it is wrong to talk to a guide or schedule a tour even if you think you'll end up buying resale, but I think there is a line that can be crossed with taking advantage of a guide's time knowing you are not buying from them. For example, let's say I take a tour and decide 100% to buy resale, but I keep calling the guide with all my DVC questions instead of researching on my own or asking the resale brokers. Personally I would consider that unfair to the guide.

I believe the OP stated that they were well aware of commission and requested their original guide because of that. I will tell you this, if I had been treated like that they would have known before I left exactly why I was going a different direction. And their boss would know as well. And as far as the PP that stated the guide yelled "You're Welcome" back to them....

OH NO!!! :scared1: That would not have been the last words yelled that day.

guides are people too? i'll be darn, learn something new...:teacher:

...yes, i agree, it is a 2~way street, & i think we had some
problems because of left-over stressors, that one can "see"
being posted here every day. in one incident, a poster
"brag" how he confronted his guide about resales, in a
very taunting way.

no , i think the other assumption is also dependant on how
much money- instead of your "well being". [ also if one been
watching the pending changes, i thought they were working
it to their advantage. ]

not only guides are people but they have families. i believe
everything , anyone tells me, until their behaviors prove
otherwise.

however, the guide yelling "your welcome" is a puzzlement. just
saying there may have been an unintentionally response or she was
intended to "hurt". but why? must be more to the story that
the poster may have missed?

social skills are part of our work educational programs. one
standard observation, we teach,
whenever another "acted out" in a hostile manner without
any self evidence, or a stranger "doing" the same thing, most
likely, it was because the person is under stress or suffering a
recent emotional issue, & "you" was available + look-liked
someone, they can "unload" on. redirecting is usually all it
takes, or "setting a limit" in extreme case. [ if the first
response don't work in getting them to back off. ]

for the record, it is easier to support one toward self control
then to attempt controlling them with force. also much safer.

our guide told us stuff that later turned out inaccurate. however,
we didn't think that meant he had lied to us. the mistakes then
created obstacles. however, nothing so big, that problem
solving & corrective measures could over come. :goodvibes

what i think? some inside the dvc are also "moonlighting". it is
also evident, that some loopholes are unfair. like those calling
every day, trying to get an available room before going
through the system. do they care about cheating others?
this is why i think they are motivated toward changing the system.
also i also think those having home priority should also have
"it" on any wait lists. if they can't get the other rooms @ 7mos.,
then they should jumped ahead of others for their home resorts.
also if they are within the 7mos. period, those owning @ the
resorts should be bump up. after all, it is their home resort.

sometimes, :surfweb:....self control or lack of , produces some
interesting observations. [ dvc rules/policies are not that
hard to understand, but many makes the "point" of the ways
to get around the system. ]
