Cut down some dead wood on some of my flowering shrubs and took out some old brambly sp? stuff - Now too bad its going to SNOW! tomorrow! Gardening in New England;)

SPRING CLEAN UP!!!!

LOVING IT~~~~

HATING IT!~~~~

I've been in the garden all week, a couple of hours a day, trying to get some order back. W:bounce: W!!! There is so much to do!

First off....the leaves.....WHERE THE HECK DID ALL THESE LEAVES COME FROM???? DIDN'T I RAKE LIKE A FIEND LAST FALL???? I JUST KNOW I did!!!!

My bushes have quite a bit of frost damage this year. We had alot of cold weather, lots of snow and lots of freezing and thawing. So I guess I'll be out there slashing and burning.....sigh....

Luckily, my new bulbs weren't heaved.....and my DAFFYS are starting to come up! So wonderful! Everytime I do spring and see all the bulbs, I get happy!

So, it's a cold, wet one here today....I'll be inside planning my garden!

Enjoy the day, everyone!

Back in the garden again. This is the time I hate most (especially this year). Although I love to be outside and love gardening spring clean-up is my least favorite thing, looks like I never did anything this past fall. With all the ice and snow the yard, the trees, the grass and the flower gardens have taken quite a beaten.

So it clean-up time, but while I clean I dream of bigger and better things. Whether any will develop into anything, who knows. We are doing major deck and patio renovation this year and removing a huge pine tree. If there's any money left when these projects are done maybe a new garden project.

I did alot of raking out last weekend...I agree with Gina....I know we all complained about raking in the fall so I know we all did it! But where have these leaves come from?????

My big project this year is I am moving my big perennial garden into new beds I made in the fall and then I am reclaiming that area as a vegetable garden...I have been sooo tempted to start moving things but I am going to wait a few more weeks. i know I should wait until after they bloom but too anxious and excited for any waiting!

I began my big spring clean up this weekend as well. Worked on it Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon. Got the lawn mowed for the first time this year. DD managed to get the first of the six flower beds around the house cultivated and weeded... so I can plant my annuals pretty soon. She will do one bed a day for the next week to get them all in ship shape.

I worked on the main garden. Got the dead plant material removed from the vegetable garden and managed to do half of the main flower garden... added compost, tilled it in, and removed weeds. Did a modest pruning on the roses. I plan to finish the other half today. Over the next several days in the evenings I plan to till up the veggie garden and plant out my tomatoes (in wall of water protectors) and I have some raspberry canes that should show up probably on Tuesday which will need planting out. I need to have the garden in good order before we leave for our spring break vacation next weekend. It's like this every year... a big flurry of activity to get everything under control and in order... and then the work load kind of levels out for the remainder of the year - so long as I keep up a regular maintenance regime and don't let it get away from me.

I've been 'playing' in my garden as well (FINALLY!!!!!!)

I have all of the beds cleaned out and all of the 'winter-interest' plants cut down. I don't remember most of the bulbs I planted last year, but they seem to be EVERYWHERE!!!:D

My 2 sedums have dozens of little heads poking up, and the poppies and delphiniums are showing life too. The Foam Flowers are still green and fluffy - like they didn't even go thru our harsh winter. My poor Rhodo was two-thirds dead, so I had to pull it.:( :( Well, at least I have a spot now for the Disneyland Rose I ordered!:p

I spent a good portion of yesterday in my front sunny garden. I moved 3 roses in to it, planted 2 heavenly bamboo and moved some things around that were in funny places. I'm very excited to see how it all grows this year. This garden was new last year and everything was pretty small.

Welcome, yasuern! :)

Did you get the snow?

Gina, and Amid, the few leaves you missed last fall had to keep warm somehow under all that snow.....frisky little things! ;)

The patio and deck reno sounds interesting, Mamu. Do you already know what your design is? :)

Your garden should start to mature nicely this year, Mary. Keep that camera nearby, okay? :)

Dixie, wow, you are sooooo organized! Is Bullseye_Girl enjoying helping you out? :)

Sounds like a bad news/good news deal with the rhodo, sorcerormickey. I'll be interested to hear how your Disneyland rose does this year. :)

I was out there too. Not this past weekend but the weekend before. Raking leaves  but discovering wonderful starts of things below it. Did I write earlier that my Montauk Daisy, the one I didn't know where to put, the one DS-I-L's dog dug up, is showing signs of life? I see the start of some tulips and daffodils but not the hosta yet. Also debating whether I should trim that hydrangea of mine. The instructions said to prune it in early-mid March and here we are now in April (as of 1 more hour). And now that you guys mentioned it, I kinda noticed some turning of color to dead brown on part of one my rhododendrum bushes but I sorta just turned a blind eye to it. So much to do. Wishing for better weather...and more time!
