In search of my body...not the one I ate!

I did not have a great Sunday...a good week, a pretty good Saturday night, but tonight was dinner with the inlaws! Soo much food there, you have to dodge it when you walk in.:rotfl:

But here's to Monday!

But here's to Monday!

I am picturing your MIL hurling food at you :duck: ! Have you tried throwing back??? Maybe not the best ettiquete (Sp) but it would be much funnier and if I am going to have somthing go right to my hips...I want it on the outside!!!:rotfl:
You will be just fine this week. Life is life and we need to learn to live with it....sometimes living means choices that we regeret...we just need to forgive ourselves.
That is the hardest gift to receive.

I'm in...... I've procrastinated, and made excuses, but I keep being drawn back here, to check on everyone, be encouraged, laugh, be concerned, and laugh some more. I've borrowed a scale from the neighbor, mine was "lost" sometime last year. I've had a good week food wise, during a very stressful week. I'll pm my weight. I know it's just a number, but it is a reality check. I still think I'm thinner! More later, but I'm in!! Thanks for all the laughs and encouragement so far.

I thought of PMing you last week when I was going through people who poked in and have voiced any support to this thread. I was debating if PM'ing someone was a little stalkish since there is no commitment to a thread for just saying hi....or even any commitment for sticking around for a while.

You were missed and it was noticed and I am so glad you are ready to help us and be helped at whatever level you are comfortable! :woohoo:

BTW: Hockey Kat was the big winner :cool1: of free Tupperware last week for losing the most weight...... 7 POUNDS! Kat please P.M. me your address so I can send it to ya!! :yay:

Congrats on your success and good luck to all of us this week!!!

It's a snowy Monday here in the Northeast and the kids have a snowday! (One of the few benefits of living in this climate!) Truth be told, I love it when they get a snowday! Most of my other mom friends moan and groan, but we just play board games in our jammies and make hot cocoa (which I will pass on today) because I am a diet goddess. :lmao:

The new semester is supposed to begin for me today, but yes, the storm is bad enough that even the university is closed! :cool1: I think I am happier than my students! :rotfl: I actually teach mostly online and only have to go to campus one or two times per week for a few hours each time...so I am really happy that the snow came on one of my "on campus" days. As much as I love working from home, it also means no snow days and no calling in sick. :sad1:

I do think, thoguh, that working from home has helped to create my ever-expanding tail end. :lmao: I keep telling DH that it is because I spend so much time in my desk chair (one of those big comfy, swirly ones) that my butt is naturally just forming to the shape of the chair...it has nothing to do with my eating! Seriously, though, I think that working from home has contributed, so I have to find out what those triggers have been so I am sure not to pull them!

Have a great day everyone! For those here in the northeast....stay warm and safe!

I so agree with the working from home part....I don't munch all day but I have been known to binge and when no one is looking....watch out! :3dglasses

I have stopped putting all the naughty food in the house and I am just really being so much more self concious about those bites. It is finally time to grow up and stop blaming everything else for my backside bulges.

I am jealous of the snow day...we love em here too!!:worship:

Thanks for the encouragement...

Question:
What famous person do you think would be great to take to dinner and pick their brain...and what restaurant would you go to...plus...what would you order???

I would like to take the whole board to dinner aren't we famous yet ????? (yes I kiss hind quarters well) anyone free for dinner tonight? LOL...(restaurant?) a quaint little Italian villiage restaurant that only the locals visit. I would order by pointing at someone else's plate that looks good ( I speak very little Italian so I would have to point.

WOW thanks everyone... *blush*. It was probably just water weight/bloat from the holidays.

You could do hot cocoa, just buy the sugar free version. Or I bet you could make a sugar free version yourself with cocoa powder, skim milk, and splenda...

We don't get snowdays around here very often. All 2" of snow we get on average! It is a bit colder today though, high in the upper 40s/low 50s instead of the upper 60s/low 70s we had last week.

I don't work from home except on rare occasions, but I work in an office and sit at a computer all day. I think it DEFINITELY contributed to my a$$ spreading. This is why I try hard to hit the gym at lunch... well, that and I am too lazy to go after work and too little of a morning person to go before work.

I so agree with the working from home part....I don't munch all day but I have been known to binge and when no one is looking....watch out! :3dglasses

I would go to a Brazilian steakhouse and eat as much steak as my poor body could handle... but scratch the famous person, I would be too nervous to eat!!

I wasn't so good yesterday, I had a turkey sub that Mr Kat brought home from work for dinner. It probably wasn't too much off the plan as it was dry and I added light mayo, but as I don't really know the calories in the bread, it is hard to tell... I did do 45 min on the "arc" (I think arc=torture btw) trainer, though.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Ok, for all of you who are good with your water....

I HATE drinking water! I have a really hard time with it! Any tips? tricks? ideas?

Thanks!

I have a 32 oz refillable that I fill once in the morning, once in the afternoon. I set it by my computer keyboard, and CHOKE it down as much as I can. I drink it lukewarm so it is easier to chug.

I hate water. I think of it as "diet medicine" since I have read that it does a lot to flush fat out of the body.

Hi Gang,

HockeyKat - Congrats again, I am not worthy to even speak your name given your seven pound loss.... :worship: OK - maybe I am exaggerating, but that is still an awesome loss... Congrats...

This weekend was a tough one for me since I was out of town. I tried to be good, but ended up eating some carrot cake that appeared to celebrate someone's birthday. I was happy that it was about 1/4 of the size piece I would have normally eaten, but I think the injection of that sugar into my system re-awakened my carb loving self and I am now craving all types of breads and sweets. The veggies just don't look that appetizing at the moment... I am willing myself to be good and stay on plan, but it is not easy...

Suggestions for the non water drinkers out there... hmmm... try easing into drinking plain water by starting with some of the flavored mix ins from Crystal Light. As time goes on, start putting less of the mix into the water to wean your way down to regular water... Another option is to put any type of citrus fruit into your water to add some taste. My favorite drink when going out is club soda with lemon and lime in it. The club soda satisfies my soda craving (without all of the toxic sugar) and the lemon and lime wedges give it some zing. Think of it as a sprite or 7-up without the syrups and sugars. The best part is, it is cheaper than beer or wine, usually comes in a big glass and no one can tell if it is a mixed drink or not. You could even mix it with cranberry juice (just account for the calories of the juice) and call it "soda" and count it towards your water intake for the day... Hope this helps...

I have my official weigh in tonight so wish me luck folks...

Goof

Congrats Kat!

I don't love water either, so year's ago I started drinking sparkling water. I buy Crystal Springs with Berry or lemon. DH likes the lime. Club soda works with different fruit as well (pineapple, carrot slivers, mint etc.) Don't get the ones with aspartame in them or sugars or salt.

Also, put a bottle of water with a green tea or decaf sweet or fruit flavored tea in the water for just a minute to add flavor. Keep it in the fridge and use it all day. It helps to have a special drinking mug or cup with a fun straw to keep the mind games active.

Hope this helps.

Ok, I admit it...I consider Aspartame a food group. Just exactly what is it doing to my bod?

Yup, that is pretty much what I do right now...but you got it right...choking it down is exactly what it takes. We need a grossed out and puking smiley!

This will sound harsh in writing and reading it, but I want it to be read as health and science instead of pointing a finger at the food industry or us for using it.

Aspartame has an enormous amount of health controversy, you will find several pro-aspartame websites (we call those pro-drug) websites that will tell you it is safe. BUT many, many other doctors and researchers have spoken out against it being unsafe causing and exacerbating many problems.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame_controversy

Go here and you'll never put it in your mouth again. Any time there is this much controversy we choose to go with avoiding it and that it may be unsafe. Margarine is legal also, but we know now how much heart disease that causes as well. Diet drinks have turned out to be one of the most unsafe products on the market. Remember that many supplements and products (like Red Bull) are not controlled by the FDA, just because it is legally sold doesn't make it safe.

Other than the questionable health concerns, it scrambles your tast buds much like fats and hydrogenated fats.

Ask yourself, "if I put this in my mouth, will it shorten my life from seeing my children or my children seeing me for one more day?"

In case you’re reading this and saying, “what margarine is bad?” here’s a little something for you:

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavorings.

DO YOU KNOW...the difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods..

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine..

Very high in trans fatty acids.

Triple risk of coronary heart disease.

Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)

Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold.

Lowers quality of breast milk.

Decreases immune response.

Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing fact... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC..

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:

* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

I don't know about the research, but I am a firm believer in trying to keep the foods going into my body as close to their original form as possible. I know this is coming from the gal who is eating packaged food from Jenny Craig, but I read the ingredients for most of the JC food before I joined to make sure that it didn't contain a bunch of chemicals and not a lot of food.

One of the things that I specifically checked for with the use of apartame (aka nutri-sweet) or other artificially sweetners and was thrilled when I found out that they didn't. I used to get nasty migraines and dizzy spells in college and they stopped when I decided to give up soda for lent one year. My doctor made the correlation after keeping a food log for three months. It turns out that the nutri-sweet in the diet coke that I practically inlined for the caffeine was making me sick. Once I removed that substance from my diet my migraines and my dizzy spells went away.

It may sound strange, but I really do feel better if I am eating whole foods as opposed to processed. I spend most of my time in the grocery store shopping on the outer wall now - fruits, veggies, cheeses, meats, dairy, with brief stops down specific aisles for breads, cereals and spices. The processed stuff may be cheaper, but my life is better without them...

Goof

Goof, You are about the 50th person to tell me about the headaches ending! I do the same, shop on the outside of the market, Costco is a little different (tee hee) And I've heard many times that Jenny Craig is a good way to go.

Reading the ingredients is the beginning of purging your kitchen of the bad stuff.

I shortened the quote due to it's length but that was great information!!:worship:

No I would not spread Tupperware on my toast Sam I am! I would not let my children chew on plastic and swallow it with green eggs and ham!

Seriously....I agree whole heartedly. I know we keep mentioning Tupperware but it is what I do for a living so I will pass along facts.

The plastics council of the US has held many studies as did John Hopkins showing the link between plastic causing carcenogins and cancer. This is the deal...

If you have cheap butterware or crapperware or even Crystal Wave Tupperware...get rid of it. (That's right...I hate Crystal Wave Tupperware) If your plastic container has a recycling sign on it's bottom...it is made for a one time use and not made to stand up to microwave wattage or continual heat. High in the microwave is the same as 450 degrees in your oven.

That is why you get the white pitting/etching inside your cheap plastic. The plastic did not evaporate...it went into what you ate.

I am sending HockeyKat a piece of our Rock N Serve line that is the only product approved by John's Hopkins and the Plastic council to heat on high in the microwave and will not weaken the product.

It can also be put in the microwave with the seal on and will allow for ventalation without blowing up in the microwave!

I really am excited to give this to her because I want us all to eat healthy and cook safe!!!

***As far as the water goes...I love water. I have a hard time remembering to drink all I need to but I love it. Never order pop at restaurants...just water so I am not a big help to some of ya that struggle. My dad always had a cold pitcher of water in the fridge...I have done the same and my kids will drink water for breakfast as often as they go for milk. It is I guess one thing I have done okay....now if only I didn't introduce then to the benefit of Twinkies and fondue nannas:banana: .:lmao:

Just wanted to say I am sorry...if I can think of any other great suggestions I will send them off to ya. If anyone can tell me how not to throw up in my mouth eating fish...I would love that too.:thumbsup2 I know it is good for me but I hate fish!!!

Thanks, All.

I am well aware of most of this info. I should state that we are vegetarians (yup, even the kids)--we eat dairy and fish, though. And we have always been into natural and whole foods, so no worries there.

I don't drink caffeine at all and don't drink many carbonated beverages (flavored soda water and flavored regular water...this is where the aspartame comes in).

And yes, I am aware of the aspartame controversy, though there is still lack of definitive evidence...I was just thinking that there was something new, particularly as it applies to weight loss.

Currently, I consume aspartme when I drink the flavored waters (since I told you that I hate regular water), I put equal in my tea, and I eat the fat free yogurts. It is the only "chemical" I put in my body for the most part and have been unsuccessful in eliminating it.

The wikipedia info. is the same ol' same ol, and of course, we know not to trust that site anyway (not saying that I necessarily disagree with the aspartame info. that is there, just as a whole, I never use wiki as it is a banned site at all universities due to the fact approx. 30% of the information there is erroneous).

Still, thanks for everyone's input! I always love to hear about all sides of an issue. :thumbsup2
