I am thinking of purchasing some In-Room gifts for our upcoming cruise. Is the only way to shop for items by using the form that is on the DCL website? If that's the case, how primitive!

You can also call them. I ordered rainforest passes for myself recently, very easy. Got email confirmation within minutes. I believe they don't put it online because if you are buying gifts for someone else, you need to have X amount of information about their cruise and I bet a lot of people don't have it, easier to have someone to walk them through it.

Yep, that's how it's done. They really should invest in adding the ability to purchase in-room gifts to the website.

I agree that they really should have an online booking tool available for this. My pet peeve about this is that they don't even provide you with a phone number that you can call internationally as they only have an 800 number on the form. If you call from abroad you can't use an 800 number. I don't have a fax and I know that letters to the US sometimes take up to 2 weeks. I have started to ask my travel agent to take care of ordering my gifts (mainly just the day passes for the rainforest room) for me.

They also still don't have the offerings up for cruises leaving from Copenhagen. What is so difficult to keep this up to date? I am pretty sure by now they need to know what they can offer, the ship will depart for its first cruise from Copenhagen in less than two months. Certainly the order for supplies in Copenhagen must be out by now!

When I spoke to DCL the person said they did not have Copenhagen as available for gifts. I have a special celebration I want to acknowledge at sail away. Maybe they have to work out the tax implications with Denmark first.

I think they should have worked that out by now - especially for people like you who want to plan for a special celebration. The tax implications can't be that difficult. VAT laws are harmonized within the EU (the percentage might differ though from country to country), so if they know how to deal with it in Barcelona, they should know how to work with it in Denmark. It really is not that complicated and that is what tax attorneys are for.

I am pretty sure the gifts for Copenhagen will show up at some point in time, but I think 52 days before the first sailing is far too late.

I called to order and I wanted a wine package, some other things, and to add onboard credits. They had to run things as 3 separate transactions! Unclear why their system is so primitive but the thing I found funny is they ask who the gift is "to/from" and if you are buying for yourself they put that it is from Mickey. Except not alcohol. Mickey would never send alcohol.

I think it's more about deliveries and suppliers than tax who can deliver what and when the ships are in port, Dover is the same, Barcelona has established suppliers. Flowers for example will have to come locally and not from the USA, Wine is more often local wine say in wine packages etc.

Spain and France and Italy are far easier to source Wine, than the UK.

Yeah, I just ordered rainforest passes and thought it was crazy that I had to call them. Then it is aggravating to spoon feed all my information to the person on the phone. Just let me type it into a website and go on about my day. Crazy! If I can order a expensive vacation (with all passenger details) and the expensive excursions to go with it online you would think they could figure this one out.

If I understand the website for gifts correctly, you can order beer & wine, but no hard liquor such as Whiskey - is that correct?

It looks like they added some new Frozen items for the San Diego cruises in May:

Frozen Stateroom Decorations
Frozen Stateroom Experience plus pillow and throw
Olaf's Warm Hugs (youth hoodie throw)
Frozen DCL Cooler Bag
Frozen Chocolates

It also looks like the picnic set is no longer being offered. I really wanted to get one for the blanket.

Yes they added them to Dover and Copenhagen on Friday as well. Frozen is cut but a tad expensive.

Will the gifts be in the stateroom when we arrive?
Yes.

When we have ordered them they gave always been there on arrival, even when we said for a birthday a set date, it still was there on embarkation. The only things that are not, are wine package, typically you get a note in your room and use it in the MDRs or food Oder may come after 1.30 pm, to prevent it going off.
