Just a few notes as I sit here at SSR watching Boston Legal ("Denny Crane!")...

One night in a BCV Studio:
- First trip to the resort.
- Room was pre-assigned, but we were told all of our requests were met (non-smoking, Epcot view).
- Got into the room about 2pm.
- Room was in great condition (by my relatively lax standards.) Only noteworthy issue was the coffee table looked like someone used it as a sawhorse in the past. (In other words, it was really beat up.)
- We were in room 559, which our room service waiter said had one of the best views in the resort. Fifth floor. We saw just about every part of Illuminations higher than the spinning globe.
- Resort was very nice. I still think that we prefer the condo-style of OKW / SSR, but that's just personal preference.
- Breakfast at Cape May was wonderful. DD 1.5 was scared to death of the characters, DS 3.5 loved them.

First day in SSR 2B:
- Resort is everything we had hoped for, and more.
- Checked in about 10:30am. CM gave us a choice of two rooms that were cleaned and ready for occupancy. Got right in.
- Our room is technically labeled "pool view", but only because it faces the quiet pool, with Downtown Disney farther in the background. View is great.
- This room is in fantastic condition. Wonderful furnishings. Looks brand new.
- Signage on the buildings really stinks. I really don't have a good solution to offer, but it still stinks. Would probably help to have directions to the nearest elevator on each sign. Beyond that, if I hadn't known that our room was on the second floor, I might have been walking in circles forever.
- Construction is still evident, but not obtrusive (IMO.)

Other comments:
- Holiday parade at AK was really fun. Rhetorical question: why do people insist on being verbally offensive when you can't make room for their 6-member family + stroller two minutes before the parade starts?
- Weather is spotty. 60s last couple of days--70+ tomorrow--could be 50s after that. But guess what? Can't do anything about it so who cares...
- The parks really are busier than we expected--busier than recent trips we've had in January, May and September--but wait times don't seem to be impacted much.
- The holiday add-on to Illumiations was just stunning. We watched from our hotel room at BCV, but I just can't describe how the sky lit up. I hope to video later in the week, and will post somewhere on the net if I can.

If anyone has questions, particularly on SSR or the parks in general, feel free to ask. I'll post more info on our trip next week some time.

TJ,

Good to hear from you and happy for you that things are going well. We still have a picture of our DS when he was about 1.5 (he is 12 now) crying when Chip & Dale visited our table at the Capre May Cafe'. They are now his favorite characters and he insists on getting his picture with them on every trip. Continue having a great time.

HBC

PS: Answer to rhetorical question: Some people are jerks and they don't leave that at the gate to WDW.

Actually, I was wondering how many shells they fire off in the Illuminations holiday add-on. Can you get on that for us? ;)

Funny you should ask. Here's what Screamscape.com had to say last week:

"An insider shared a bit of information with us about the new Illumination’s finale segment. They claim that a normal Illuminations show uses up about “1200 charges” by itself, while the new finale fires off an additional 900."

I believe those figures after having seen it myself. It's just spectactular. I didn't bring a tripod, so hopefully the arms will hold-out for the show later this week.

Very impressive tjkraz.

As I recall those shells cost up to $500 each. Regardless of the cost, it's a very nice holiday gift from Disney to all of us.

Is the Dondald Duck Splash area open for kids yet? We are heading down Friday to SSR.

Sounds like you are having a great trip! Enjoy the rest! Are you able to swim?

I didn't realize that Illuminations was special for the holidays! We have the International Dinner Illuminations dessert with our Grand Gathering next Monday. I can't wait to see it, but thanks for the warning of the noise!

I'm so glad you enjoyed SSR, we'll be there Saturday!!!! Did you have a DVC Christmas tree?

Bobbi :D

Glad that you are so happy with your new home. Have fun!

Cool pictures, Debbie.

Forgive me for making this quick. It's 12:30am and I'm about 2 hours removed from a very enjoyable MVMCP.

Thanks for all of the replies. In no particular order:

SSR Children's Play area: YES, it is open and fully functional. The weather crept into the 70s on Monday and we took advantage. I'll post a couple of pictures when I return. Tuesday it wasn't supposed to hit 60, and a couple of really bored lifeguards tried to coax DW and I into some swimming. Didn't work. ;)

With regard to swimming temps, 70+ is usually our limit. All Disney pools are heated, but when it's cooler than 70, the air temp can be unbearable anytime you are out of the water. Our DD 1.5 didn't last long on Monday because her teeth were chattering even while in the water.

Nevertheless, on our arrival day (max mid-day temp of 65) we saw a family sprinting for SAB at 10am when it was probably 50 degrees out. Different strokes...

DIS Tree: No, we didn't get one of the trees. I had a small tree that I had hoped to bring along for our family, but never got around to it. The Christmas festivities here really are spectacular, so no complaints about a lack thereof.

A few other notes:

- Member Mixer was fun. Due to MVMCP, we arrived right at 3pm and only stayed for about 20 minutes. Didn't see any lime green (and didn't wear any either.) But we chatted with some folks and had a nice time. The CMs working the event really had their best Disney faces on--very conversational and pleasant. Got a photo with Chip and Dale. Mickey and Minnie arrived later, and the line grew very quickly. Couldn't stick around for them.

- Osborne Lights were very impressive. Seems as though they've done away with the 3D glasses I've seen mentioned elsewhere.

- Had dinner at Crystal Palace. Cape May breakfast was better. Couldn't really point to any one thing--CP just didn't have that "magic." Seemed too chaotic. Tables in the middle are bunched too close together. I know that it must be hard to juggle the characters around from one group to another, but it's still rough to hear your 3yo say "why won't Pooh and Tigger come see me, daddy?" Yes, we did see all 4 characters, but it took an hour (which is about 40 minutes longer than it took to get visits from all at Cape May, and 30 minutes longer than it normally takes us to complete a meal.)

Thank you for taking the time to reply!!! It's almost like being there! We too can only be at the mixer for about 20 minutes and I'm glad to know that it's going to be worth it. I wear a lime-green mickey on my camera case, I hope to see some others there. :flower:

WE loved the mixer last week too! Lots of DIS folks there then! I hope they do this other times too.
