Due to starting back teaching again and being pregnant and not feeling well, this review is over 2 months late, but I still feel passionatley about it so I'm posting on the better-late-than-never mantra!
We stayed at Pop from 8/19-8/22 for my birthday....me, DH, and my parents. Witout going into a resort review, we were extremely impressed with the whole Pop experience. I can't believe we haven't tried it out before, but we have gotten great deals at othe resorts and a free upgrade to OKW the one time we did book Pop. But not to digress...
The Food Court
I just want to comment on how I think Disney finally got it right with the size and selections of the Pop food court. Although we always liked the food courts at the All-Stars, we were much happier with Pop's.
I'll start with breakfast. I'm usually not a b-fast person, that is to say, I eat it but have my favs and don't usually visit the food court for b-fast on our Disney trips. My 7 year WDW resort b-fast routine has been to bring my mug to the food court, fill it w/coffee, cream, and sugar, grab DH an OJ and danish or muffin, head back enjoying my leisurely walk, and then drinking my coffee with my b-fast bar back in the room. Well, things really changed when I got pregnant!!! I lost my appetite for coffee and b-fast bars. In their place came a strange love for all things eggs. So on this trip I enjoyed a b-fast pizza both mornings we ate there and I'm still drooling for one as we speak! I could never finish it, but it just satisfied all cravings and filled me up. DH ordered a couple different b-fast platters and enjoyed them as well. There was just such a selection of egg and bacon-type platters and sandwiches, to pancakes and waffles, to the traditional continental-type offerings that I was extremely impressed.
Although we didn't eat lunch or dinner there (my parents did and loved it), I did spent a lengthy amount of time one night scoping out all the choices. From home-cooked type dinners, to asian, to pizza, to burgers and sandwiches, anything one craves seemed to be offered. I just wished I hadn't been preggers (I'm glad I am, but it's so hard to vacation at WDW while pregnant and having tons of food aversions!!!) and we hadn't scheduled a sit down dinner each night because almost everything offered was one of my favs. Plus, I go for anything but burgers on our Disney trips so I know that I would have been satisfied with the amount of non-burger choices they had. Way to go, Pop!
The dessert selections were fabulous as well! Again, I am a HUGE dessert fan when not pregnant, especially ice cream and cheese cake, but with a bun in the oven, I have had a major aversion to sweets, except for fruit and an occasional vanilla shake. So on this trip the only thing I did try out was the vanilla shake and it was tasty, but the non-prego lady in me really wanted to try the various desserts and the cheesecakes. My mom tried the tie-dye cheese cake and loved it. Again, drool happily when standing in line at the bakery!!!!
Oh, and let me just quickly comment on the drink selections. Along with the standard pops, they had apple juice and the infamous frozen coke and rasp. drinks. I think this was awesome for a food court to offer these with their mug program. I didn't drink much pop on this trip, but found the apple juice to be a big help when I was thirsty for more than water. I also must say I indulged in the frozen coke one afternoon and was hooked! Oh the weird things that taste good to me in my pregnancy!!!! (I'm so not normally a sugary drink type that it is weird.)
I think DH and I are officially Pop-Snobs now. We can't wait to go back with our daughter some time in the next year and stay at POP. If you plan to stay in the future, you'll be more than happy with the food court selections!
