Just a reminder for those of us getting ready for the 5 days of 90+ degree heat here in new england.

Please check on the elderly folk you know. The heat can aggrevate medical conditions quickly...those with breathing problems...those with COPD, Asthma etc...

We all know they are on fixed income and may be hesitant to turn on the a/c or fans due to increased electric bills...BUT....please encourage them to do so...

Those with o2, please check their tank levels! Yesterday I stopped at my Great Aunts house to find she was on her last portable tank...thankfully I stopped the medical folk are arriving today with new tanks..She normally doesnt require lots of o2, but when its humid like it will be this weekend- she will use it more and more...so.......

I know I'll be calling and checking on my Great Aunt (age 87) more this weekend than normal...

Just a public service announcement!

Take care and keep cool!

Brandy, thanks for that reminder, I will make my husband check on his brothers and sisters, they are much older than he is as he was one of those surprise babies born later in life.

I am so worried about my dad. He and my mom are going to the NASCAR race in Loudon on Sunday and he is bringing along his oxygen. I don't think they should go. I think they should just skip it this year and stay home and watch it. Its going to be unbearably hot and he can barely walk across the back yard never mind walk up into the stands and sit in the sun for hours.
He has COPD and is as stubborn as a mule.

DBF's best friend is at Loudon this weekend working with the EMT crew...we were discussing the heat earlier this week, and he said during his pre-trip meeting heat stroke was one of the biggest concerns the medic's have...I know the guys he's going with (all fire fighters) are concerned about themselves as well...let alone the spectators...he alone brought 4 cases of water...they even did some extra training in detecting heat stroke and other heat related issue's...I'm not sure I'd be happy if my dad thought he was going, given what your father has for conditions!...I agree with you, and wish you luck in convincing him otherwise!...

shamless bump for those late sleepers!

Good reminder. After what happened in Europe a few years ago with something like 35,000 people (mostly elderly) passing away due to an unusual heat wave we should all be vigilent when it comes to these things. We are supposed to be in the hundreds for a few days out here and you have to stress on people to drink plenty of fluids and stay indoors as much as possible.
