In Memorial of the Virginia Tech Losses

OMG..... so far 31 people DEAD! My heart goes out to all those friends and family.

here is what happened

Two shooting incidents on campus today have left 33 dead. Thirty-one, including the gunman, died at Norris Hall; two died at West Ambler Johnston Hall. Fifteen other victims from Norris are being treated at area hospitals.

The university is in the process of identifying victims and notifying next-of-kin. Names will not be released until that process is complete.

Counseling assistance for students is available at West Ambler Johnston and McComas halls until 9 p.m. tonight. Students are encouraged to utilize these services.

Counseling for faculty and staff is available in the Bowman Room on the fourth floor of Jamerson Athletic Center, accessible from Jamerson or the Merryman Athletic Facility.

The university will remain closed Tuesday. Essential personnel are to report for work. Classes are canceled.

A public gathering will be held Tuesday at Cassell Coliseum at 2 p.m.

All students are urged to contact their parents as soon as possible to let them know individuals are safe.

Students, faculty, and staff who have any information related to the incidents are encouraged to go to the Blacksburg Police Department to make statements, or call 540/231-TIPP (8477), or 231-6411.

Thanks to everyone who popped in for a bit.

The room is still open, please stop by to spend some time with us and support those so closely affected by this tragedy. It was brought to my attention that at least two VMK DISers are very close to this incident.

great room

sending love and prayers to the friends and family of the fallen :grouphug:

An honorable venture, to be sure, but I just hope the conduct in this room is tasteful.

Lord only knows what horrific things people did for Steve Irwin: it became a chance for Room Owners to get people into their rooms, not a "memorial." And sometimes the memorial itself was disgusting: we don't need to recite eulogies in an online Disney game devoted to the Parks.

If I may quote Walt Disney:

"I don't want the public to see the world they live in while they're in the Park. I want to feel they're in another world."
-Walt Disney

So let's just keep that in mind when running this room. It should be a place to console those that were actually involved or were struck by the ugliness of this side of human nature, not to replicate funerals or create drama within the community.

I don't want to sound like a bad guy, but you are treading on very thin ice.

My heart goes out to anyone affiliated with the school past and present.
The students and their families are in my thoughts.

Yes, we need prayers here in VA. I have many friends who have family members and friends at Tech. I also have some friends there, and at this time I am not sure if one of my dearest friends (an engineering student) is alive or dead.

Again, prayers and good thoughts are desperately needed.

Such a sad day. I don't understand why some people just want to kill other people. Why cannot there just be peace on earth? And why do terrible events like this bring our nation closer together? Why cannot we allways be close?

May we all take some time to bow our heads and be silent for the deaths and injuries. Let us take sometime to think of these people. May god protect them.

My prayers go out to all the students and families of the students, especially dis families.

God bless.

My most earnest prayers to you, your friends, and family. I hope that whatever happens is for the best, and I believe it will be.

I feel so sorry that everyone has had to go through such a terrible tragedy, and I will be praying for all involved. Except the gunman.

What really scares me - My brother goes to school right near there, and I have a cousin that goes to Virginia Tech :scared1: Thank goodness they're safe, but we lost many students out there :(

Hugs and prayers to all those that lost family, and/or friends.

Just wanted to add my thoughts and prayers...

The news was truly horrifying- and I heard it from my oldest daughter- who shares a connection to the school.

Last year a young girl from the area came to our area with bags of things for all the local Girl Scouts who experienced the trauma of Hurricane Rita- the bags were filled with nice things like candy, stuffed animals, make up, school supplies, games etc.... but each bag also included a Virginia Tech T-shirt- the college had donated a few thousand shirts, sweatshirts, and hats.

My daughter went to school with a little orange poking out from beneath her school uniform shirt today.
