I cannot send emails out from my office computer. I'm receiving them but I get an error message when I try to send one out. Nothing was changed. It worked fine when I left yesterday, but didn't work when I came in this morning. I called our provider and they told me I should try calling McAfee. I disabled my McAfee, but it still doesn't work.

I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow and need to get some serious work done. Does anyone have any clue why it would be doing this?

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Had something like this with a client of mine. Using Outlook Express they would get a 'missing file' type error on receive. The solution was to turn off computer while Windows still running (force a crash) then come up in 'safe mode' (for non-XP Windows) and run Scan Disk. This fixed their situation as they probably had broken file chains. The same thing happened last Friday but on the send side this time. I repeated the solution and it fixed their problem. Hope this helps.

Sounds like your outbound email server is down or you have a connection problem to it. In most cases, there are two email servers. One for inbound mail and one for outbound mail.

Are you the only one having a problem? Can you use another PC?

What email program are you using?

I am using Outlook Express. I have to go boot up the boss's computer & see if he has the same problem.

I had this problem with OE...Make sure your Outgoing SMTP is correct. For some reason, bellsouth ( my isp) changed without me knowing it...I had to make my outgoing bellsouth.net instead of the mail.rpmgc.com.
It worked fine for 2 years, why it changed all the sudden, only the Shadow knows!

It's only my computer. The boss's computer is fine, but he uses Microsoft Outlook. All my settings are correct...I verified them with my service provider this morning.

Interesting. Based on the error message I would assume it is somewhere down the line of either A) your network (if you are on one) or B) their mail server being slow.

Test out another mail account created with the same exact settings in outlook express and see what happens :)

you did try to reboot? also verify the settings with your bosses pc (it works) not with your provider. nothing against them tech support is usually pretty poor these days.

Ok, I've narrowed it down to the update. My computer did the automatic Windows XP update yesterday. Now all of a sudden I'm having problems. I tried to restore it to Friday's date, but it's still not working right.

Thanks for all the replies today. I was panicking and didn't have time to thoroughly read all the responses while I was at work. I did end up restoring the computer back to Friday's date and rebooted it. That seemed to work...at least temporarily. I'll have to take some time next week when I'm back at the office to try to figure it out.
