In case we decide to name him "Elvis"

Well yesterday's double babyshower went..eh..ok. It was..interesting at best. We got lots of cute clothes, including a blue/white onesie that reads 'Harley Davidson' with the Harley logo and a matching blue/white baby doorag emblazoned with the Harley logo.^_^

My mother also presented my sister and I with the baptismal outfits she bought. My sister's was ok, a white lacy gown with matching booties and hats. The one she gave us for James, however, looks like a mini-Elvis jumpsuit, complete with rhinestones, flared collar and a goofy looking white sateen hat to go with it. We showed it to my SIL last night and Jess was like "What, does she want him to be an Elvis impesonator for Halloween?". I laughed.

My stepgrandmother (who I didn't know had been invited or else I wouldn't have gone) also showed up with gifts at the very end. My sister got a carseat and I got a stroller (no carseat with it. :-( )which my mom demanded (after my stepgrandmother left of course) that we leave the stroller with her so she could use it when we brought him over. HELLO! We're NOT going to be over that often because you live an hour away!

I think the best thing we got out of all the clothes and toys was the 'pilt' my grandmother had paid to have made for us. It's a quilt that folds itself into a pillow for easy storage that also has a hangie-do so you can hang it on the wall as art if you so choose. Tres' cute.^_^

Sounds like fun Usula. Tell your Mom to shop for extra baby items at yard sales. Sometimes you can get really nice strollers for just a few dollars. Baptismal gowns on boys always look sissy. In fact we got my oldest two boys baptized together, one was 1 1/2 and one was 2 months. The oldest had a suit on that we called a sissy suit. Little velvet pants with suspenders and a bow tie. Now he is 13 so it is fun to get out and go HAHA, look how dorky we dressed you! So you got that going for you with the Elvis suit!

I've learned to be less polite and more forth coming as I get older
I'd have taken the stroller home and told her as I was loading it in the car that if I decided she could keep it I would bring it back after the baby was born

Sorry, you learn over the years that *you* are the parent and that if you don't like the suite return it and get what *you* want. Same goes for the stroller. If it's not the kind that you wanted (with the carseat) then return it and get one that you want. It's going to be you carrying the baby around ~ so get what you really want.

We are actually thinking of giving the stroller to DMIL so she can have it when he's over there, since she'll be babysitting him most of the time. Especially since one of DH's coworker's donated a used carseat/stroller combo (carseat/carrier sits on top of the actual stroller part) a few months ago that is in REALLY good shape for 2 year old carseat/stroller.

Kallison--I am actually thinking of a way right now to tell my mother that we do NOT believe in infant baptism and how to deal with her reaction to that. I was thinking of maybe taking him to GlamourShots or whatever and getting some photos taken of him in the outfit, but not actually using it for a baptismal ceremony. I won't let my my mother push me into baptising my kid if I don't want to.

Also..the shower was..interesting. The only people I knew there were a couple of my sister's friends that had been friends with her forever. Most of the people there were older women from my mom's church and NONE of my friends were there at all. Mostly because my mom only let me know about the shower a week and a half or so ago and even though I told them, most of them already had plans for yesterday so they were unable to come.:(

I also found out from a friend of DS's that the only reason there was a DOUBLE shower was because a friend of my mom's who knew I was pregnant really put a fire under my sister's friend Katie (who threw the shower) to do it for both of us instead of just my sister. My thoughts were that my shower and Liz's shower should've been seperate events because I don't want to overshadow her and her soon-to-be daughter Catelynn.

I talked to a friend of mine yesterday and she said she was planning on getting together with another friend of mine and planning a shower for my friends and DH's family, who also didn't attend the shower yesterday for various reasons (mostly work related).
