I have booked 1-21-06 for 2 adults & 1 child. Now a friend (14) would like to go. When I called Disney to add her to our cabin they said that we can only have 3 in our cabin but that we can upgrade to a higher catagory for a small fee of $2200. We can also wait to closer to the date to see if somone cancels in our catogory. We have enough beds in the cabin. Has anyone had this problem before? Can anyone give me any suggestions? I hate to tell her that she can't go. HELP! Thanks .

What category are you currently booked in? Category 12 cabins only have 3 beds. I can't imagine that it would cost that much to upgrade to a category 11.... unless you booked as soon as rates came out 2 years ago and your cruise leaves next month.

Have you tried talking to a travel agent? Perhaps if you transferred your ressie to a TA, they could find you a better deal or offer a rebate or something that offsets the cost of the upgrade.

Good luck.

Did you check the passporters guide to make sure your room actually has 4 beds? There is a fee to add the other teen (on our cruise it was $860 to add an 11 year old to a room), is that included in the $2200?

Some Cat 9 rooms have 3 beds and some have 4. If you are Cat 9, maybe the 4 bed rooms are full and they are suggesting you bump up into a Cat 8. The cat 9 to cat 8 upgrade as well as the cost for adding a person might very well amount to $2200.

What's basis for this statement?

Generally, category 12-5 staterooms have a queen bed (that can be split into two narrow singles) and a sofa the can be flipped around into a single. A minority of staterooms also have a bed that pulls down from the ceiling above the sofa. Only staterooms with such a pulldown can be booked for 4 people (except in categories 4-1).

Sometimes DCL cannot add 4th person when the ship or the chidren's program is at maximum capacity, even into a room that can hold 4. But, given that DCL could book you in a higher catagory, that doesn't seem to be the issue here.

We are booked in a cat 9 for $2240 and a $150 onboard credit. When we booked the TA said that all 9's slept 4. Well we now know that's not true. The 4 year old will sleep in the bed with the 2 adults leaving the other bed empty. DCL is almost full on our dates except for some inside cabins unless we upgrade to a GTY 6 or a 5 to pick our own cabin. We are thinking of booking a single in the cheapest cat.

Disney won't allow you to sleep 4 people in a room designed to sleep only 3. Even if the 4th was an infant. Also, you won't be able to book a 14 year old as a single. You or your spouse would have to book the room with the 14 y/o and cancel the other adult in your existing room (and therefore lose your EBD for that adult). I'd ask your TA to price out the various options that you may have and see if there is a cheaper alternative. Good luck.

The single supplement is 175-200% of the rate (which is based on double occupancy). I don't think that would be cheaper than adding the 4th person to your room and upgrading.

It is unlikely that the teen group is full for 1/21/06 (you know it isn't since they will let you add at a higher category.)

Many 9s only hold 3 people. Despite the fact that the 4 year old will sleep in your bed, DCL lists your cabin as holding only 3 people. You might consider changing to a lower cabin if there is a 10 or 11 available that holds 4. I'd suggest a 10 since with a teen you'll appreciate the split bath.

Go to the disneycruise site and put in your dates with your party of 4--essentially pretend that you are making a ressie. See what comes up as availability. If they show it, you can book it!

Ok, I just did that for you. DCL shows availability for a party of 4 in categories 4,5,6,7,8,9,10, 11, and 12. Of course, we know that booking 4 in a 12gty gets you an automatic upgrade to an 11 since no 12s hold 4.

Is your TA one who books a block of cabins and then sells only out of their block? I'd hassle them....DCL has plenty of space for you as of this moment. Your TA may not have the cabin you want, but DCL does! You should be able to book the 9 and just add the extra child fee. Just to be sure I'm right, I checked for 2 adults, a 4 year old and a 14 year old. And I'm not showing your cruise as "almost full." In fact, January is one of the lightest times of the year and one where we typically get great deals.

How about if you try to book a cat 12 across the hall from you? You would book it with 1 adult in each room, but how you choose to sleep everyone is your own call - the teens could have the inside cat 12 cabin). The cat 12 would give you a $75 shipboard credit (if you used AAA - which it sounds like you may have based on the $150 credit for cat 9). You could also get 2 cat 11s likely for less than 1 cat 6. Just some ideas that we've gleened from these boards that your TA may not think of.

But like a previous poster noted.....if you pull one adult out of the room you have...you WILL pay the adult fare for one of the children in the room...plus when you book the single adult in the cat 12...you will be paying 150-200% of the going rate for that room. They REALLY get those who book a room alone. :confused3 .

I didn't check DCL site...but looks like someone else has....From the sounds of it...your BEST bet would be to change rooms (so it sleeps 4)...stay in the cat 9 and just ADD the friend...that way there shouldn't be any "Upgrade" fee...just the additional cruise fare for the newest travler. Of course doing that you may have to book Cat 9 GTY....but at least you'd all be cruising. :goodvibes

Try going with a TA that books group rates. They may have some rooms available in your cat. since they hold a bunch of rooms, making it appear with Disney or another TA that it is sold out when in fact, another TA is holding and vowing to sell more rooms. Does that make sense?

Have you asked to have the TA transfer you to a specific room that shows up as available on the DCL site? If they wont, I would insist that they transfer your booking back to DCL so that you can take care of it. Your TA isn't being very helpful if they are refusing to do this and their are rooms for 4 people available now.

Right now there are 8 rooms showing available...

How did you make out?

If you booked through DCL directly I would call again, maybe the cast member misunderstood what you wanted to do, or didn't know how to do it. If you booked through a TA, I would also call them back.

we have had this issue. We are going on the 12/17 Western, with me, DH, DD, DS, DD, and DM. We have 2 cabins booked, and each is quad occupancy. But, when we booked, we only booked for me and DH...1 of us in each room. We added the kids and my mom later. At the time I tried to add them, DCL was no longer taking quad occupancy ressies, so we had to split everybody up...3 in each room even though each room will sleep 4.
