OK..that $50 GC sucked me in (that and watching my 10 year old nephew playing with his Fire), so I bought one at WalMart the other day. It is very cool, but I have a Touch for reading so won't be using it for that. The web thing is fine and will use that when traveling, but can you pros give me tips on some great things to do with the Fire? The apps don't seem super good from what I've seen..not like the ones out for iphones or pads..and I can't justify the cost just for playing Where's My Water :) (also is there a tutorial on that somewhere? I get the general idea, but things pop up I don't get, so would like to see more info about the game which I don't see in the app)

is so much fun. :rotfl2: I have no idea if there is a tutorial, but we just bought that game a couple of days ago. Another good game is 3D mini golf challenge. We love our Fire!

I got one when they came out. Love it! It's great for movies and books. You really need Amzon Prime to get the most out of your Fire. They just added a ton of new movies and TV shows to their lineup. Mine has the user manual already loaded on it.

I wanted to buy one at Target when I saw the GC with purchase. Great deal, I have the Nook Color which I don't use, so I resisted!!!:)

Read on it! You can get library books since you have a Kindle now and Amazon has one free loaner per month. Plus the screen is much bigger than on an iTouch. You can start reading on the Fire then change to the Touch if you don't like it. It will synch to the last page read if you are connected to the internet.

Amazon also has one free app per day so don't forget to check that out too.

Hooray for you! I got the Fire for Christmas and I love love LOVE it! I had the previous Kindle and only used it for books. I use the Fire for 90% books but it is nice to be able to surf the web on it. I have an iPhone so I use the Kindle app to read also when my Kindle is not with me. And the two apps talk to each other and sync your book pages. However, I do prefer reading books on the Kindle - it's much more 'book"-like and my eyes like the break from the small iPhone screen.

Enjoy!

The Kindle Fire only works on wireless (no 3G), so you will only be able to utilize the web browser while traveling if you are in a location with wifi.

I have the KINDLE Touch for books, so won't use the Fire for that...I guess web stuff (with wireless when available )is the biggie..and I guess for trips I caa download a movie or something..any idea on really good apps? The ones I see are mainly games. Oh..is there a control somewhere to increase the volume? I tapped and tapped and couldn't find it and didn't see it listed in the online instructions
PS..edit! When I turned on my Fire just now it had a guide that wasn't there previously..lots of info in that including volume so yeah!

Prime Videos, Prime Videos, and Prime Videos.:happytv:

There are so many that are free streaming. I use mine for basic web stuff, the Fire powers up so much quicker. I have the free app page bookmarked some days I download, most days I don't but I've gotten some fun apps.

The $50 GC card sucked me in, too. I bought one on Sunday and I loved it. I have already read a book on it from the library and am now on my second book. Can't wait to take it on the plane for our trip to Las Vegas!

What kind of apps are you looking for? - there are just as many kindle
(android) apps out there as for apple products...

Is the $50 gift card promo still going on? That's at Walmart, right?

I think when I got mine a guy said it was good until the 14th..just remember that at WalMart you have to pay tax, so my 199 Fire cost 213..still nice with the GC, but since Amazon has no tax I really only count the GC as worth 36 :)

I have read on the Kindle boards about having to get many Android apps sideways or something like that and that many people couldn't get that to work. I particulary looked for a Fox News app and Food Network App and came up empty. Also that new Disney Explorer App. I have no clue how to do whatever you have to do to get android apps that aren't set up for the Kindle.

I thought you meant an iPod touch. lol

I have the Touch and Fire too. I mainly read on the Touch but when we go to bed I bring the Fire so I can continue reading with the lights off.
