IMPORTANT!!! It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month

My breasts have no lumps. Plus I just heard news that checking your own breasts really does nothing...

P.S. I'm a guy... ;)

RoqueC, men can get breast cancer, too. And many women have gone to the doctor or had a mammogram done because they felt something in their breast.

I think you need to do some more research.

I just did a bone scan on a man today that had mets in his bones from breast cancer. IT DOES HAPPEN!!!!!! I also got a new pin
with the pink ribbon to wear.:Pinkbounc

if you're over 40!! I was SO SCARED to get my first, my Mom had told me horror stories of how much it HURT...so I was extremely nervous and kept putting it off and putting it off and putting it off....finally made the appointment, worried about it, went....was sweating bullets, it was a PIECE OF CAKE!!! I had NO DISCOMFORT WHATSOEVER!!! Since then I've had a second one, no pain/discomfort with that one either!! It's so important to have them done!!! REALLY!!!!!:bounce:

DO YOURSELF AND YOUR LOVED ONES A FAVOR......GET THAT MAMMO SOON!

I get one every year (over 50). I called to make an appt. for my yearly exam today and my Dr. is booked for all of Oct. and Nov. :(
They told me to call back next week and his Dec. calendar should be open for appts.

Bought a rhinestone breast cancer pin today at Carson's. It is going to have a very special meaning for me. A girl at work that I have worked with for 16 yrs. told me yesterday she is having a radical mastectomy next week. :( :(

If you can spare some prayers and PD for her it will be appreciated.

My Mother is a Breast Cancer Survivor so my sisters and I go every year for our Mammograms.:D

Thanks, Meg, it is so very important...BSE's, mammo's, ultrasounds, whatever works. We have certainly seen the value of all these here on the DIS, and we have all suffered the loss of our dear friend, Sylvia, about 16 months ago. I am sure we have all experienced this disease within our families or very close friends. Please do what you can do to help yourselves, and others.

I'll be getting squished next Tuesday. Charryholic is right - for me it is a piece of cake. It is making the call for the appointment and then waiting for the results that I find hard.
And those BSEs...I wish that I could say that I was good about doing THEM... :(

I made my appointment last week for Oct. 14th. I found another lump last week and am counting on it being another cyst. I've had some disappear before my appointment but still follow through with the appointment. My youngest cousin died at the age of 33 from breast cancer. We miss her dearly.

Yup....men get it too. Both my grandmother AND my grandfather had it. Both had mastectomies.

Thanks so much for posting this and the link.

I felt something unusual last week, broke out in a sweat from worry but, it seems gone now. I appreciate the reminder!! :)

My Aunt is a breast cancer survivor, so this year is especially more meaningful. Not time to get squished yet, but I do my monthly exams.

Thanks for reminding everyone! I can attest to the value of mammograms. Had my yearly exam last Dec. - no problem. Made my appt. for my annual mammogram, they couldn't see me until Feb. Well, the mammogram showed a lump, almost 2 cm. Had the lumpectomy in March and it was cancer (luckily, it hadn't yet spread to my lymph nodes). About a month ago I finished my treatments (chemo and radiation). GET A MAMMOGRAM - it could save your life!

Thanks Preshi!
It's always good to take care of ones health, and get screened for illnesses!:D

My first mammogram at 40 showed I had breast cancer. I'd just been to my OBGYN and there was nothing to feel. They caught it that early.

I used to be terrible about going to the doctor or for tests. No more. They tell me my cancer was the fast growing, evil kind. I might not be here today if I hadn't had the test, or I might still not know that it was growing and spreading.

Make an appointment TODAY! Do it for yourself or for the people who love you. Don't wait until you find a lump. You might be lucky like me and catch it before it spreads! The mammogram is nothing compared to what you'll have to endure if you let it go.
