Sauerkraut, gyros, spaghetti, lasagna, pizza, tacos, enchiladas, empanadas, sopapillas, sushi. I can think of a zillion more but I'm just wondering...why?

It's for yearbook. My team is covering this week and our focus is immigration. I'm doing an inforgraph about popular foods that haven't been American-ized.
That haven't been American-ized? Hmmm. I'd be willing to bet that most "popular" foods HAVE been Americanized- usually what you get in the originating country is nothing like what we eat here.

Ever had a pizza from Naples (birthplace of pizza)? Basically a plain dough crust with some stewed tomatoes and a few very small chunks of mozzarella made from a water buffalo. I'd say pizza in America has definitely been Americanized. There is no pepperoni here. You ask for it, you will get green peppers and even still, they will look at you funny.
