DH was just offered a great job located in Celebration. He has to start May 3! Looking for some quick guidance about temporary housing and the area in general. He'd like a short commute. The rest of us will be moving down in September and we'd like to buy a house - HELP:scared1:

Can't offer any help, but how awesome! Celebration is my DHs dream town to live in!

Define short commute? The entrance to Celebration is off 192, and that is a heavily trafficked area, and a tourist area, not a living area. :)

You'll want to consider living south of there, for reasonably priced rentals. There are places on 27 (north at the junction of 192 and 27) but many of them have income limits (tax free housing shelters for the investors) and you may not qualify.

Stay OUT Of the Metro West area, regardless of how nice it looks.

There are direct (albeit toll) roads that will allow you to live further out, and still have a decent commute.

Winter Garden is off the 429 and that will drop you right on 192.

Clermont is easily accessible too, and it's all a matter of opinion but I am not a fan of Clermont.

The Millenia area is quite nice and heavily secured. You may want to rent there for a bit, until you decide where you want to live.

Ok first off I have no affiliation with these links - I have just been using them myself as I look towards Central FL and Celebration. I have only emailed the people and they are very helpful.

As far as something temporary there are tons of apartments etc he might be able to get short term - you could even try craigslist although I think I might be apt to ask whoever you are house hunting through.

My dream would be for my husband to be offered a great job in Celebration and have to move yesterday.

Well you better make sure it's a big place....because I'd like to move with you. :rotfl2: Congratulations!

Define short commute? He's hoping for the moment to be only 10-20 minutes away. When we finally make things permanent we could go up to 30 minutes.

Thanks for the info and keep it coming. DH can't stop smiling...and I thought I was the Disney nut.

Wow. Lucky you!

Ok, I just searched some of the properties on a link given, and there are some inexpensive houses there! I didn't look closely at conditions and stuff, but 2000+ square feet under $100,000! There's gotta be a catch.

The short commute rules out you buying MY house! hrump

Depending on your price range I'd concentrate on Windemere, Winter Garden or Celebration itself. There are a lot of foreclosures in Celebration so you'll get a good value for your money.

Now, if he wants a 45 minute commute...I have a wonderful house in great schools/neighborhood that I'm willing to make a fabulous deal on!

yes you will need a big place because your friends and family will want to stay with you when they go to wdw.

If you are not coming down until Sept., you don't even need to stress about it.....yet. I am sure you can find something in the short term pretty quickly. Congrats!!!:yay:

The Millenia area is down by the new(ish) Millenia Mall. There are some lovely apartment complexes there with excellent security. You have two ways out too (not just I 4).

Tax controlled income properties mean that your income cannot be too high to live there. These are not HUD housing, rather apartment complexes meant for those who have less income than the median. They are quite nice, and plentiful.

Do you have children? You will want to have some idea of the school area.

I know right now near us, there are LOADS of single family homes for sale for crazy reasonable prices. One and two story homes... near decent schools and major communiting arteries...

Renting is a good idea for awhile until you get the feel for the area and decide where you may want to live long term.

Oh, and if the employment that your DH is accepting is with Disney (in any form) there will be many options for discounts on rent (if you choose the correct apartment complex...).

Property taxes will be a huge issue when you start to look around. Windemere is too weird. They have dirt roads to keep their (HIGH) taxes down.

Winter Garden tax base is still affordable.

30 minute commute is going to narrow your selection of affordable homes more than you may want. Keep it flexible on that one, ok? ::yes::

I live out Davenport way (about 10 - 15 minutes to Disney/Celebration) Its very quiet and lots of new constructions. We rent a Luxury 3BR condo in a nice gated community for $900 a month. Its an affordable area that's close to most things.

Yep, yep, yep! That's the south on 27 I am talking about. It's Polk County (try to stay out of Lake County).

There are gorgeous places out there, and the commute can be ok. 27 bogs down from time to time, but depending upon where you are, you may have alternate routes.

It's just outside the area of chaos. :teeth:

Oh You made me laugh. Right now all I feel is chaos:scared1:This happened so fast. He got a call about the position on March 31st, had three phone interviews, and flew down yesterday for a final look and to sign the papers. We're ready for an adventure, but I thought in my own twisted way that I could control the timing:laughing: He commutes 25 minutes now, but I'm spoiled, my commute is only 5 minutes. Back roads are our preferred means of travel. We always have an alternate route in mind. Is Davenport OK? Housing there seems very reasonable.
BTW Only DH and me, nos school agers, though our single adult sons are thinking Orlando sounds pretty good after 6 long months of winter here in western NY.

You have all made me feel MUCH better:grouphug: I knew I could come here and get the info and the support I needed. If I don't get off these boards nothing is going to happen!!. Keep the suggestions coming and I'll check back later this afternoon.
THANKS
