IMHO on codes

a lot of poiple are asking WHERE ARE THE CODES!!!!!!?????? i think that they may be a thing of the past, at least as long as the new ticket pricing is in effect. they feel if you get a 7 day ticket with your room it is like a 30.00 discount per person, per day, and brings you back to where you would be with full price hoppers and a room discount. this has more than likely been expressed already i have been away from the boards for awhile. what does everyone else think?

I haven't run many numbers with your thinking, but a $30 per day discount isn't what the deluxe resort discounts normally are. It's usually around $100 per night for a discount. Maybe for value and moderates it's closer to the $30 per day discount. I guess around $45 off the regular season price of $99? It's close, but not with the discount for deluxe resorts. Yes, we are saving with the new ticket prices, but we saved more with the resort discounts. People thought discounts wouldn't come out last spring either after they released the Disney Visa deal. They did.

I think you need to take it all into perspective. It is no longer the simple means of judging your trip by room rate alone. I took our pricing from last years trip, added the hotel, passes and meals. Priced the whole thing out for this year with the MYW dining package and it came up cheaper. So yes, I am saving money, it's just that the savings are not in the same components.

I think since there have been email and postcard codes for this period of time there will be AP and FLA Res codes.

I agree, I also think they'll release package and room only general codes.

I agree, but for us, the dining plan will not save us money so I look at the resort cost versus last year and the ticket prices for this year. At this point, it will be more expensive. We are going regardless :) However, it would be more expensive even with last year's UPH prices since those are the tickets we used because of DQ and the water parks. Even using the DDE card for dining won't make this year cheaper than last without a resort discount.

I think that if no codes were going to be offered with the new ticket pricing - there wouldn't have already been codes offered this year thru the middle of April. I do think it's possible that not as many discounted rooms will be available if many resorts are already booking up for the May Celebration. JMHO :)

I think the OP was saying that is was $30 per person, per day - so really if you have 4 in a room that would be a savings of $120 per day. The more people the bigger the savings I guess - I would love to see some room rates come out though - so I am still keeping my eyes open for them just in case!

With the weakness of the dollar at the moment I know there are huge numbers of Brits and Europeans coming over this year to take advantage of that. Coupled with the 50 year celebrations and that Disney themeparks division announced very good figures for last year, I think Disney may continue to hold off on it's discounts. Usually the way hotels and airlines work is they like to have certain occupancy levels at certain ltimes, if they are short of their occupancy levels they will offer discounts to reach their desired levels. The European visitors book quite some time in advance, if there has been a large increase in these types of bookings, as seems to be the case, it could well be that Disney has hit, or is close to, it's desired occupancy levels already and doesn't feel the need yet, to put it's discounts into place.

Disney is a business, if they feel they can charge full rate then they owe it to their shareholders to do so.

Over recent years numbers of vacationers has been down, Disney discounted accordingly to encourage those that were travelling to stay on Disney. IMHO it's been a game of stand off between Disney and those who are aware of the likelyhood of discounts. At some time Disney is going to see if those discounts were encouraging that wouldn't have stayed on Disney to do so, or if, as I believe, most of those people would have come anyway and would have been prepared to pay more for their rooms.

The increased number of bookings Disney already has from Europeans and Brits may mean Disney offers far fewer discounts this year and that those discounts are not as deep as people have become used to. I have the feeling that, this year, the guests are a little more edgy than Disney is.

Yes, I didn't take that into consideration. Every situation is different I am sure.

This year we will spend $700 more on our room and tickets without a room discount over last year with the old UPH and the discounted room.

EEyorelover22,

are you going for a short trip? I noticed that the shorter trips are much more costly! Did you book a Fairytale Package last year? I am trying to see how it will cost $700 more since the tickets are so much cheaper. (sorry if I am being bold by asking)

As Vernon pointed out, unfortunately, Disney doesn't offer codes so that people can save money on their vacations, they offer them to fill up rooms during slow periods. If the rooms are filling up without codes, it's not likely they will offer as many discounts as in previous years. As always, time will tell.

No, we are going for 10 days so it's not a short trip. I don't mind you asking :) I did book the Visa Deal last year (have no idea what the cost was to be honest without digging out the info and I'm not sure I even have it). It was for 7 nights though so then there were costs for adding our extra nights on too since we stayed 9 nights last year too. I did a quick calculation with room only discounts (we used part of as room only) and UPH prices from last year (from memory since I can't find those prices anywhere now) and used the discount from last year which I know we had for some nights. Priced last year versus this year and it's more expensive (didn't use the Disney Visa price). Kids are the same price range for tickets too. We are also staying in poolview too at AKL versus Sav view too. I used the poolview rates as that's what I have booked. It would be even more of a difference (more expensive this year) if I ran the Sav view rates. I have no idea if any of that made sense.

I guess what I was saying in my first post is that the discount if they are percentages are more significant for deluxe resorts. I think sometimes codes are easier to apply to deluxe resorts too...more rooms still available. I have seen posts when codes come out of more value and moderate resorts having to switch to a different location due to no codes available at their first choice.

I looked at the numbers for the dining option too. There was a breakdown on the dining thread about whether it saves you money or not. We eat at Boma almost every night and H&V for the FDP and then one night at Prime Time so the dining plan isn't a great savings for us in that area either...I think the savings was like $3. DH and DS eat at Quest most days and they are included and lots of times we eat at Boma for breakfast or another character meal and don't eat lunch except a snack. I also have a list of about 15 things I have allergies too...one of which is pop so the snack is a waste for me. So...different needs for different families. And, the biggest factor for me would be the stress on educating DH on using the dining plan. DS13 would have to be the one I talked to there. He's more repsonsible than his father :rotfl: He reads the maps after all when they are alone together. (I am very concerned about them going off to IOA/US, but DS will get them back!!)

The DDE card may work for us, but I'd have to upgrade my MYW ticket to an annual pass and the difference would have to be above general codes versus AP codes for that option to be worthwhile. Assuming either are available.

Bottom line...it will be more expensive for us this year without a code. I didn't even consider that we had an even better deal with the Disney Visa deal since I used last year's rates. I figure that was a once in a lifetime opportunity :) And, I won't consider how much more we're paying when we had AKL for $94 per night due to FQ closing. That won't ever happen again.

My final comment: I suffer from OCD and spend too much time thinking about all of this :badpc:

Yup...that's why I have room booked for what I am willing to pay. I would stay at a value or moderate but DH won't. I want to go to Disney so we're staying at AKL poolview. I don't want Standard only because I don't want to get a "bus stop" room and I would worry myself into a state until we checked in so I booked poolview.

In checking the Disney web site for the last week in April I will say that there are quite a few rooms left. In fact, other than the Y&B club you can have your pick of rooms. So... this leads me to believe (with the fact that codes have already been going out through E-Mail and Snail Mail) that there will be codes coming out still. People have been saying that rooms are filling up fast for the last week in April but it didn't show that on their web site. Not when you can get any room you want.......
Like other posters have said, codes come out to fill rooms not to save us money so I think we will see them continue. :)

If I look at Sav prices and tickets. With no room code and new ticket prices versus last year with Sav and UPH, this year with no room code, it will be $945 more. I posted on another thread my comment that this means we MAY NOT go every year then. That's almost our airfare. But, knowing me, somehow I'll justify it. DH won't go anywhere else.

I found the UMP prices from last year!

DAYS
ADULT
CHILD
1 night/2 day
$126.75
$102.25
2 night/3 day
$171.48
$137.40
3 night/4 day
$232.17
$186.39
4 night/5 day
$275.86
$221.53
5 night/6 day
$311.00
$249.23
6 night/7 day
$347.21
$277.99
7 night/8 day
$380.22
$304.61
8 night/ 9day
$408.97
$328.03
9 night/10 day
$436.66
$349.34

And the thread from last year with the rates. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=514417

You posted the AKL rates for us all. :wizard:

:rotfl:
that is too funny. I think I figured 494 for each...I have no idea where that figure came from...it just sticks in my head. Yours is lower, but I can't remember if it was 9/10 or 10/11 when I first did my figures back in December before MYW came out.

So, with those figures...I must have made a huge mistake the first time...now, I have that we will be paying $896.78 more. Forgive me while I have a breakdown!!! :confused3

Edited to add: that thread was for the Disney Visa codes that were a tad higher than the AP rates. I used an AP rate for my figures....probably should use a general code or the DV rate. The different for this year is $660 more.

Can you tell I am bored today?

2004 AKL Pool DIS Visa Room only for 10 nights with taxes $1736
2 adult and 2 child UMP with tax $1572
Total $3308

2005 AAA Pool Room only for 10 nights with taxes $2522.8
2 adult, 2 children MYW hopper and Magic Plus with tax $1,097.02
Total $3922.82

it is more than I thought it would be. Maybe I will play with moderate pricing next to see if deluxe vs. moderate makes a difference.

I should go clean though!
