IMHO June is the best UY

We love the WORLD but living "up north" means we are not used to the heat. Before kids the wife and I did two weeks in Florida. We vowed to NEVER go south in Summer again.

We now take the kids either in late Nov. or Jan. 80 degrees is HOTHOTHOT.

For us, October works best. That gives us until the end of May to bank our points, and quite frankly I have no desire to go to WDW in the summer.

I just changed a couple words to reflect my opinion...

I truely believe UY selection is underrated. It is importaint. Of course everyone has different vacation habits, but while keeping in mind that most DVC'ers vacation in the spring and enjoy Holidays at DVC, Dec would be the best UY. A December UY gets you your points each year right before Christmas vacation time. It allows you to bank your points without penalty and avoids losing them if you have to cancel a DECEMBER winter holiday, President's Week or Easter vacation. A DECEMBER UY also still gives you time to bank your points if you have to cancel a June, July or even August Summer vacation. Again, this is JMHO. Some say UY doesn't matter, I believe it does.

Actually we have an Oct. UY which I think is perfect for us. We may go to WDW or VB in Oct or Nov in the future. Right now we go in Feb mostly and I would never go to Florida in the Summer.

I'm still confused, a little. When we bought in we discussed use year with the agent we bought from. Our UY is April. We have made two trips in the last 1 1/2 years. One in May and then this past October when we got married. I feel that we want to travel to WDW a diiferent times to find the best time for us to go. We aren't interested in June, July, or August. October was OK but we want to try Christmas season as well. We figured we would like to visit in the months of December through May, so we are trying to figure out the best UY for us before we buy another contract.

Any UY's exept JUNE JULY AUGUST and SEPTEMBER would cover your vacations against a cancellation point loss mishap.

Your current April UY will work best for vacations from April until the end of Dec. There is no problem with booking a vacation and going during the Jan-March time frame, you just loose the ability to bank points if after Nov 30th you need to cancel or adjust your reservation (remove a day, downgrade from 1 bdrm -> studio, etc). If you were purchasing new I would advise a Sept or Oct UY. However since you have already purchased a contract you have a dilemma, do you purchase a second master contract that would be your perfect UY or do you get a sub-contract that would have the same UY. There are some advantages with going with the same UY. As a sub-contract MS can combine points from the two contracts to make a reservation. If you had two separate master contracts you would need to transfer points from one to another to combine which gets into all the transfer rules (of which I am not a master). There are limits to the number of times you can transfer, etc. I think I might stick to the same UY and just be aware of any cancelation issues after Nov 30th.

For reference....
100% BANKING DEADLINES
Feb -> Sept 30
March -> Oct. 31
April -> Nov 30
June -> Jan 31
Aug -> March 31
Sept -> April 30
Oct -> May 31
Dec -> July 31

We aren't retired, and already we can go at various times of year. We don't have kids yet, so we can go any time. We went this year in May when I finished classes. We are going in 2010 in January before classes begin again. We are also taking our family in June when all the teachers in our family are done with classes. We are also planning a long weekend for F & W in October. For us, there is no perfect UY.

UY can matter and should be taken into consideration, but travel habits can and do change. Once we have kids, we'll have to limit our trips to certain times of year. :sad2: People should remember that life can change quite easily; plan the best you can with what you know now. The rest will fall into place.
