Hi
We were asked wether we wanted a late or early seating on our cruise we chose late as our children are older. Now this is all that ime able to understand, that my seating will be late.
I have been reading these posts and i know that there are a number of restaurants but ime confused as to how mealtimes are organised. Is there a list of people that go into a certain restaurant at a certain time? could someone explain to me how it works ime reading about rotations and going in different restaurants for your meals its totally confused me.

There are two seatings, early and late. When you receive your key to the world card upon check-in you will see which rotation you have for restaurants and what seating time you have. There are three dining restaurants, Animator's Palate, Parrot's Cay, and Lumiere's (Triton on Wonder). So, if your card says APL table 1, then say you have late seating you go to table 1 in Animator's the first night, then Parrot's Cay, then Lumiere's, and then rotate back again. Your table number and time never change, your waitstaff follows you.

Hope I did not confuse you further. :confused3 :)

Every night you will eat at a different dining room. There are three different themed dining rooms. On the Magic it's Parrot Cay, Lumiere's, and Animators Palate. (on the Wonder it's Triton's instead of Lumiere's). When you get your Key to the World card, it will have your dining rotation on it. For example it might say APLAPL. So you would have dinner the first night in Animators, the second in Parrot Cay, the third in Lumiere's, and so on. You are the second seating for dinner, so every night you will go to your assigned dining room at 8:30. It seems pretty complicated but it's actually quite simple once you get onboard.

Thank you for that
It all makes sense now i was imagining a long wait for tables as people scramble to get in the same restaurant.

Thanks again

There can be long lines going into the restaurants (I don't know why people are lining up 20+ minutes to go to dinner  ) Once they open the doors to the restaurants you go in really quickly because everyone has a RESERVED seat waiting for them (all 450 per restaurant per seating).

Things to know about dinning - the basics
1) Seating: Main (6:00) or Late (8:30)
2) Rotation: Which dinning room that night. On the Magic the restaurants are: Lumiere's, Animator's Palate and Parrot Cay so the three rotations are LAPLAPL or APLAPLA or PLAPLAP and on the wonder the restaurants are: Tritons's, Animator's Palate and Parrot Cay so the three rotations are TAP or APT or PTA. If you are on the 4 night cruise DCL just changed to having the first 2 nights in the same restaurant (ie. TTAP, AAPT and PPTA) BEFORE Pirates Night the rotation on the 4 nighter was TAPT, APTA and PTAP.
3) Table Number: (same table number in all of the dinning rooms)
4) Your Serving Team: they will be with you for all of your rotational dinning
5) Your Tablemates: Most families will share a table with other families. They will be with you for dinner in all of the rotational dinning rooms (so get to know them - you have 3 to 7 nights to make new friends)

I don't know why people are lining up 20+ minutes to go to dinner

Because some of us didn't bring watches! Then we planned on taking longer to get dressed than it did - then we were all dressed up with no where to go! We usually hung out in the Prominade Lounge with a drink, though. (Its also a good time for photos in front of Tritons/Lumieres)

You can stroll right into dinner, and while there isn't any reason to get their 20 minutes early, your serving team and tablemates will appreciate it if you do show up "relatively" on time. So for 8:30, try to be there by 8:35.

I absolutly agree. Be there on time, but it's not like at the parks where waiting "outside" means less waiting "inside" or in this case getting a better table - because your table is reserved for you.

Ok...let's say we arrive at 8:30 and the rest of the table doesn't show up until 8:45. Does that mean we have to wait to eat for everyone to show up?

Sometimes. But you can ask your servers to start taking your orders serving you before your tablemates show up.
