Has anyone seen a movie at an IMAX theater? Is it worth the extra cost?

"Night at the Museum" is playing at the local IMAX -- $14. Just wondering what the draw is....

Could you tell me a little more -- what is it about the IMAX experience that makes it different?

Big Screen. ;)

The one closest to me is real comfy. :thumbsup2

I think most of the movies I've seen at an IMAX were not shown on/at "regular" screens/theaters, but I could be mistaken about that.

I haven't gone all that often, so it's sort of a "special treat" to do so.

Probably not that helpful, but pretty much sums up my personal opinion.

we've got an IMAX Dome at our MOSI. never seen a regular movie projected onto it, just IMAX formatted films.

mindblowing and totally immersive. the screen is over 10,000 sq. feet.

I love IMAX movies. We go see just about everything they show, it is that good.

It really all depends on the movie.

For example: Polar Express if PERFECT for IMAX!!

Not only is the screen bigger, the seats (usually) better and stadium seating - but the sound is also better.

IMAX in 3D is even cooler!!!

Just got home from seeing Night at the Museum on IMAX. It was awesome, surely to become one of my favorite movies. For us, it was about $1 or so more than a regular theatre, so not much difference in cost - but quite a different experience. BTW, it's not shown in 3D, but still fun to watch on such a huge screen. Give it a try!

I don't understand the fascination with the flat screen IMAX theaters. :confused3 The one that opened at The Henry Ford when we lived in Michigan was touted as the next big thing. Well, the screen was smaller than any AMC screen, IMHO. You just sit closer and higher. I remember we saw Fantasia 2000 there and never went back.

Now, the dome screens are a whole different animal - they are FABULOUS!!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I wish I could see all movies at an IMAX Dome. Definitely worth the price.

I love seeing movies at an IMAX! If it's a movie that I want to see and it's playing at the IMAX I am there! Luckily, my mother can get discounted Regal tickets that I can use at our somewhat local IMAX so it doesn't cost me any more than a regular theater. The times I've had to pay full price have still been worth it to me. The big screen is great!

I guess it depends on the quality of the standard theaters in your area. Around here we have stae of the art digital DLP theaters. The IMAX kind of pales in comparison.

I wouldn't hesitate to see an exclusive IMAX format film, but no way I would pay more to see a standard film in an IMAX theater. Not wehn equally good theaters are closer and cost less.
