I was so excited to get the recently published Imagineering Field Guide to the Magic Kingdom. I thought "Here's a chance to learn some really great stuff from the people who make it happen." Sadly, almost everything mentioned in the book, I learned from websites and discussion boards, like the DIS. So, my advice, unless you are a person who buys every book about to our beloved "home," don't buy it. You're better off sticking to the great discussions we have here, and you'll save ten dollars. ;)

My DH doesn't DIS - do you think he would enjoy it?

Yes, I think he would, unless you already tell him everything you find out! ;)

Seriously, it's a good read for anyone who's never been or is interested in fun facts and history about WDW. Do you have a trip coming up? You may want to get it for him as a pre-trip gift.

we are going next month and we have been a lot - but he thought it sounded cool!! I tell him stuff - but I think he thinks I am making half of it up!!

I will try to pick it up this week for him!

Thanks!

I also bought that book, I really have enjoyed it. My DH also likes it. It has some interesting things I hope they make one for all the parks.

Is that the name of the book? I have been looking for a book that gave you background info on Disney World. If anyone else has any other suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

Hugs, :grouphug:

The title of the book is The Imagineering Field Guide to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. The ISBN is 0786855533, published by Disney Editions, 2005. The cover price is $10.

While I'm glad I bought the book, I too was hoping to get some "new insights" to DW. I agree that most of things in the book I had read about here or in other guidebooks. I am a Disney addict, however, so I am glad to add the book to my collection. But, like the OP, I was a little disappointed too.

I wasn't disappointed in this book at all. I knew some, but not all, of the secrets mentioned. I found the chess game at POTC the most interesting of all. It makes the scene so much funnier.

Grr...why does everyone have their book already?? I thought the release date was moved to 9-30....I don't have mine yet. :guilty:

I got mine at Border's a couple of weeks ago. Haven't even cracked it open yet. Sorry to hear it's not full of new revelations. :earsboy:

I am the OP, and I wanted to mention that the reason I felt the book is not very helpful is that most of the secrets in this book are also in the DIS thread "Your BEST WDW Secret!"

But, to give the book some credit, there are some great pictures of early concept artwork for the attractions we know and love.

:flower:

Well It is alot easier to take the book in your pocket instead of lugging around a laptop at the park! It's always at your fingertips! I bought the book this past weekend and have gone through most of it. I really enjoyed! it's kool 2 see what the imagineers are invisioning for a theme/ride/attraction/show. Yea some of the stuff is here on the board but nice 2 just open it whenever u want.

I've been a DISer for a couple of months now, but have not yet gone to WDW (planning for next May), wouldn't it be good for someone like me?

I wasnt very happy with it, BUT there were a couple things I didnt know and one im ashamed to admit:)
That the donald in the philharmagic gift shop was the one who flew into the wall.
And what was weird was that I read the book in the car on the way home and when I looked at the pictures I just had developed I had one of that donald:)I had completly forgoten I took that picture.
The section with walt made me tear up just a little, but overall I was disapointed.
My mom was funny though she comes to the car with the book saying "you made me pay ten dollars for a pamplet!" she was expecting it to be bigger.

Ditto (except I'm a guy and don't have a DH). The book is on Overstock.com for 7.02 plus a very small shipping charge, but it's under their "self-help" section.
