Have booked a 4 nt cruise for Dec 9 and was planning to sit around and wait for Dings from NH. Checked both AP and Airmiles a few weeks ago and nobody had anything for Dec. Checked Westjet's one day sale and it would still have cost over $2000 for 4 of us. Sigh.
Anyway, called AP again. And got the right person...I think her name was Azmira, I wrote it down so I can send an email...
She got us something! Not great routing, but for base points (25000 each) pretty close to our dates. YHZ-TPA. Leaving Sat Dec 8, not until 10 am, which is reasonable. Three legs, about 10 hours, but meh, better than 10 hours just to get to NH on winter roads... Coming back was even more challenging (the bottle neck is getting points in and out of Halifax), but she found 4 seats on a flt from Chicago direct on the 19th. Was hoping for a few more days in Fl, but that works too, we'll get home in time to buy and put up a real tree. We ended up choosing an overnight in Chicago rather than a really long day. I've never been, figure we can look at Christmas decorations and eat a deep-dish pizza.
Still cost me $750 by the time I bought an extra 7000 pts to top up, plus taxes and fees. But cheaper than about $200 ea in surcharges/taxes from Airmiles (if they had availability). We were on the phone a full hour working it out. But God bless her for her persistence and creativity!
