iMac question

Yeah, I know I could Google this, but actually?...I've already tried. I even looked at the Apple forums.

I need to record a short bit of a speech and then e-mail it to someone as an mp3/128kbps file/format. Does *anybody* out there in DIS-land know exactly how to do that? It's a 2008 iMac and we're running Mac OS X 10.5.8. DD is pretty savvy about this kind of stuff, but I thought I'd ask here for pointers/tips before we get started on it tomorrow.

I've recorded some stuff and downloaded them to YouTube or to a website, but never e-mailed the darn things.

Download a program called Audacity from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/beta_mac

You will also need to download and install LAME mp3 encoder (link and directions are on the website above).

We actually ended up doing the following:
*recorded it using GarageBand
*sent it to iTunes(making sure the file was in the proper kbps speed specified)
*dragged & dropped it onto the Desktop
*brought up the e-mail
*attached the file

easy-peasy! (We did send a test e-mail to ourselves to make sure everything worked and was readable.)
