If you have one, do you use it often? I don't have a DVD player in my room so I guess I could watch DVDs in bed and while traveling.

Walmart is selling a Magnavox for $228.

Don't have one but I would suggest you get one with the biggest screen (I think 7 or 8 inches is about the biggest) you could afford.

Or get binoculars.

Do you have a need for a laptop?

Would be much better than buying something that becomes useless when your not watching movies :D

No need for a laptop plus they are more money.

I have a Panasonic DVD-LA95 and absolutely love mine.
Elwood is right. Get at least 7 inch screen. Mine has 9 Inch screen.

It goes on Road Trips and Airplanes with us. The sound is great, especially with ear phones. You can get an adaptor that plays through the tape deck of your car or you can get one that broadcasts an FM signal.

Laptops are not that great. Plus you cannot secure it in the car when you are riding. You can get a carrier that will also secure it.

Check out Best Buy or Circuit City too. They have them and a big selection. Dont go cheap and get a no name brand. Small electronics have a tendency to burn out. Get something quality. Magnavox is good. I went with the Panasonic after a lot of research. I paid a little more, but thats fine with me. Do not forget to get the car/plane adaptor and headphones.

If you want any more info, PM me.

not only are laptops more $$ they are also not as versatile on trips.

We have 2 of them, they each have 8" screens. We bought them for the DD's when we drove to WDW last year.

They came with the car pack- the case that they strap into and goes onto the back side of the front seat.

They each had ear phone's.. YEAH!

We've used them a ton of times- going to a mall from here is at least an hour away- and usually 2-3 depending on what we're looking for and we use them for that.

My brother used 1 this summer when he drove to maine for his toddler. Though he didnt use ear phones.

We bought ours are walmart but they are not magnavox. I can't remember the name off the top of my head but they were about 300 each.

the battery life on ours is about 4 hours playing a DVD so we could use it on a flight to WDW as well.

We got an adapter for our cig lighter- it has 4 outlets- and my Envoy has an outlet on the backside of the console between the 2 front seats. No wires coming up front

We also have a 13" tv/vcr combo that we used before the dvd players. it's not at DH's store, for when the kids go there.

They were great, but we bought them solely for the WDW trip with the DD's if we used them more after that- bonus.

FYI- they say through 5 hours of a NYC traffic jam, and did not know we were stopped...I can't imagine doing that without the DVD players!

Is there a difference between the brands Polaroid and Magnavox?

We love ours as well! Bought it last year for my dd's at Christmas. Love taking it in the car on long trips!! I think it was worth it!

Those are lower end Name Brands..They are still good quality and probably would be ok.

 That's what we are giving the 2- Granddaughters for Christmas, that way when they are traveling, or at home or at my house they can each do their own thing, w/out a fuss.LOLMy DH came up w/ this idea, even got them the wireless, noise free head-phones. I think you will love one!!!!!!!nana2tots:wave:

We purchased our first one at Sears over a year ago, it was a Go Video model. As it turns out, almost all of the units we saw were manufactured by the same company (Mintek rings a bell?) and rebranded.

The differences were very minor, except the more expensive units almost invariably came with a better battery (more mAh, I think our current one is at 4400mAh, enough for more than a 2 hour movie).

Another difference was that some models charged only with the battery attached, others had a standalone charger (so you could charge the unit's battery in your house while using the unit in your vehicle.)

We picked up a case for the unit that straps between the driver and passenger seat of the car and holds the unit securly, so it doesn't become a missile straight at my kid's head if we're rear-ended.

Anyway - we got the Sears warranty, and I'm glad we did! After a year of having pop splashed on it, my DD2 constantly opening and closing the disk door, occasionally stepping on the unit with muddy shoes while the disk door was open (!!!) and other varieties of abuse, the unit finally gave up. We brought it back to Sears with our warranty and they replaced it, no problem, with the Memorex 7" flavor, also manufactured by Mintek (the remotes are even interchangable.)

Good luck!

Glad to read all this right now. I was actually just saying to someone the other day that after Christmas we will be looking for a portable DVD player. We are flying cross country next summer for a family wedding and I need something to amuse my children on the 6+ hour flight. We do have a tv/vcr combo in the van... it is actually our second one and we use it a LOT! (We live in a very rural area so we drive 30+ minutes to anything and everything!) I'll be keeping my eye here to see any other recommendations!.......................P
