My husband, daughter and I went to Disney last year and had a great time. My daughter and I can't wait to go back (my husband however is not so eager) so I was thinking about surprising her with a 4 day cruise next year. She will be 6 at the time we go. I have never cruised before, has anyone ever taken a trip like this? Is it a good idea or am I getting in over my head. Any tips or advice would be great. Thanks!

Jennifer

That sounds wonderful to me. Memories the two of you can share for a lifeitme.

Sounds like a great idea! Only downside would be that you would have to pay the adult fare for her.

Jennifer,

Two years ago, I took my 2 daughters, then aged 7 and 10 on a 7-day western. We had the time of our lives. They spent some time in the clubs, some time on their own and a good amount of time with me -- time I cherish especially now that the 10 year old is a 12 year old... with all that goes with that.

Although traveling with their Dad was fun too, there's a cool freedom you have without the guys, no worrying if they're having a good time like we always do!

I say go -- I wish we could join you!!!

My daughter and I did the 7 day cruise a couple of years ago - my concession to her wanting to see characters and my desire to avoid the parks in the summertime. We took my mother the following year when she retired.....so two mother daughter cruises to my name.

I'm a single mom, and have cruised with DD since she was age 4. We've been on DCL 10 times, beginning when she was 7. We have a blast. I do insist on the kid program a time or 2 in the first day or so....if she makes a friend, she wants to go back. This gives me some "me" time. She regards the Magic as her second home now.

The only downside is that you pay adult fare for the kiddo.

I took my DS 10 and DD 15 on the Western 1-04 (and left DH and DS 5 at home). The whole family had gone on the Land/Sea the year before. My husband gets chronic migraines and felt trapped on the ship. My little guy is afraid of anything new and did not enjoy the trip. So we left them home - where they wanted to be - and had a blast!! It worked out great. We had more fun on the second trip without them holding us back - sounds terrible doesn't it?! We do plenty of family trips to the zoo etc.. the DS now 6 enjoys so he doesn't feel like he missed anything.

On the daughter's side I've done three disney cruises with my mother and just loved them! It's something she and I bond with and will always remember!

Last October I cruised with my DH, DD, DGS, DGD, DSL. My husband and son-in-law were not interested in cruising so soon after October so I'll be leaving tomorrow to meet my DD, DGS and DGD for our cruise Saturday. We are very excited about this trip and I know we will have wonderful memories to take home with us. By the way, the men will be joining us next August for the repo CA to FL cruise.

Our first cruise was grandma, me and my daughter..this past one was a girls only trip..me and my daughter and my friend and her daughter....the next one is back to me, grandma and my daughter again....
